BIOGRAPHICAL SKETCH
The group of researchers for this research study came from Grade 11 Asteroids
in the Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) strand of Calamba
Institute, Halang. The purpose of this research is to provide and explore the prominent
issue of the growing chemicals in cleaning products, especially dishwashing liquid, that
can cause more harm than good. The researchers aimed to promote a better
understanding of eco-friendly and natural cleaning products, paving the way for a more
sustainable future. They believed their study would reveal the benefits of adopting
organic dishwashing products that are better for the environment. Through hard work
and determination, the researchers delved deeply into their investigation, carefully
gathering data and analyzing their findings.

applications for orange peels in home cleaning. For instance, the outer peel can be used

restoring their shine. Additionally, placing orange peels in a bowl of water and

on various factors, including the method of storage, the packaging, and the environment.
The author said that orange peel is widely used as a spice in cooking, to make tea, or
even in skincare products. It is rich in vitamin C, dietary fiber, and essential oils that give
it its unique aroma and flavor. He also said if orange peel was dried and stored
properly,
it could last up to one year. However, if it is not stored correctly, it can lose its flavor and

orange and how to refresh the dried orange. He said that placing the dried orange peel in

often due to its antifungal, antioxidant, and antibacterial properties (Sissons, 2024).
However, lemongrass may irritate the skin and cause rashes if a person is allergic to the

According to Cayabyab et al. (2024), lemongrass and orange peel are the key
ingredients that can surpass the effectiveness of a commercial dishwashing soap. The
orange peel contains D-limonene, a naturally extracted oil found in oranges that
enhances the luster, cleanliness, and refreshing scent of various surfaces. It also has
antibacterial properties that help eliminate dirt, grime, and stains. Meanwhile, lemongrass
helps maintain a healthy balance of beneficial bacteria, ensuring optimal cleanliness, and
its natural antiseptic properties make it gentler on the skin. Moreover, it contains
antibacterial, antifungal, and deodorizing properties (Paloma, 2024). Together, these two
key ingredients create a more effective formula that can compete with other commercial

antibacterial advantages.
In contrast, standard dishwashing liquids often have high levels of chemicals like
phosphates, sulfates, and artificial fragrances, which can be harmful to both human
health and the environment (Alec, 2024). These products utilize surfactants such as
sodium lauryl sulfate (SLS) and sodium laureth sulfate (SLES) to boost cleaning
spread and infiltrate grease, facilitating easier removal. Although Mutamima et al. (2024)
noted SLES is seen as a gentler option that helps avoid skin irritation and is safer than
many other surfactants, certain chemical ingredients in dishwashing liquids may still have
detrimental effects.
