My Internship Experience: A Journey of Growth and Learning
Internships serve as a bridge between theoretical knowledge and practical application. My
internship experience was no exception, as it provided me with a deeper understanding of my
chosen field while allowing me to develop essential skills for my future career. As an aspiring
teacher, my internship at Mabitac Elementary School was an enriching experience that
strengthened my passion for education and reinforced my commitment to fostering a positive
learning environment.
From the very first day, I was welcomed warmly by both the teachers and students. The school
environment was vibrant and filled with enthusiastic learners eager to gain knowledge. During
my internship, I was assigned various tasks, including assisting teachers in lesson planning,
preparing instructional materials, and facilitating class activities. These responsibilities helped
me gain hands-on experience in managing a classroom and understanding the diverse needs of
students.
One of the most valuable lessons I learned was the importance of adaptability. Every classroom
is different, and each student has unique learning styles and challenges. By observing
experienced teachers, I saw firsthand how they adapted their teaching methods to cater to
different learners. This experience solidified my belief in the humanistic approach to teaching,
where students' individual needs and emotional well-being are prioritized.
Another significant aspect of my internship was my exposure to outdoor learning and cultural
activities. Since I aim to integrate outdoor experiences into my teaching, I took every
opportunity to observe and participate in activities that engaged students beyond the four walls
of the classroom. Whether it was assisting in sports events or incorporating interactive lessons
in the school’s open spaces, I saw how experiential learning can enhance students’ motivation
and understanding.
One of the most memorable moments of my internship was when I led a small group activity
that incorporated elements of the tribal sport of Talaandig. Seeing the students’ excitement
and eagerness to learn about a culturally significant activity reinforced my belief in the power of
integrating culture into education. It was fulfilling to witness how learning becomes more
meaningful when students can connect with the material on a personal and cultural level.
Throughout my internship, I also developed my communication and problem-solving skills.
Engaging with young learners required patience and creativity, while working alongside
experienced educators taught me the importance of collaboration and continuous learning. I
encountered challenges, such as managing classroom behavior and addressing students'
individual difficulties, but these experiences only strengthened my confidence and ability to
adapt to different situations.
Overall, my internship at Mabitac Elementary School was a transformative experience that
equipped me with the skills, knowledge, and inspiration needed for my future career in
education. It deepened my understanding of teaching as a profession and reinforced my desire
to create an engaging and student-centered learning environment. I am grateful for the
opportunity to learn from dedicated educators and to contribute, even in small ways, to the
growth of young learners. This experience has undoubtedly prepared me for the rewarding
journey ahead as a future teacher.
