UNIT 9: HOUSES IN THE FUTURE

Lesson 1.1: New words and Listening


I. OBJECTIVES
By the end of the lesson, Ss will be able to…
1. Knowledge
- learn and use vocabulary: smart home, megacity, earthscaper, eco-friendly home, Underground
- discuss and give advice where the people should live
- compare homes now and in the future
- listen for gist and specific information about houses in the future
2. Ability
- Develop the ability to communicate, to self-study, to solve problems and other skills
- Improve their linguistic competence: listening to a talk about houses in the future
3. Quality
- have a positive attitude in English language learning so that they actively participate in all classroom
activities
- express the opinions and give the choices on homes now and in the future
II. TEACHING AIDS AND LEARNING MATERIALS.

III. PROCEDURES
A. Warm up: (5’)
a) Aims: To introduce the new lesson and set the scene for Ss to acquire new language.
b) Content: introduction of some new words about the topic “Houses in the future.”
c) Outcome: To understand and have general ideas about the topic “Houses in the future.”
d) Competence: Collaboration, communication, critical thinking.
e) Organization of the activity:

 Activities 1: Introduce new language (10’)

b) Content: New words (page 70)

Step 1: Knowledge formation
- Tell Ss that they are going to look and listen to
the new words
- Shows the Powerpoint slides with the pictures on
them to elicit Ss to the new words

Step 2:
- Help Ss remember the new words by deleting - Listen and give the meanings of the new words

 Activity 2: Speaking Skill (10’)


a) Aims: to use the knowledge in practical situations with the new vocabulary items presented to express
themselves and develop communication.
b) Content: listening, thinking, reading and practicing the new language in the situations. Working in
pairs.
c) Outcome: to know how to use the knowledge they have learned to produce the language.
d) Competence: Collaboration, critical thinking, communication, creativity, presentation

 Activity 3: Listening Skill (15’)
a) Aims: to improve their listening skill through the main idea exercise to develop a conversation, and
they can also finish the listening task in the textbook.
b) Content: to discuss and perform well with the questions, make sentences/ dialogues. Do listening
exercise.
c) Outcome: to listen for gist, recognize the correct or incorrect information (details), improve listening
comprehension
d) Competence: Collaboration, communication, analytical & synthesizing skills.
e) Organization of the activity:
