In 1968, a Community High School was pioneered by Mr. Augusto Alejandrino,

the District Supervisor of Northern Tabuk. It was subsequently established as a public

school by the Ministry of Education, Manila, without Congressional Act or Executive

Order for its opening. The permit was granted by the Division Office of Kalinga-Apayao

without the benefit of classrooms and budgetary outlay. The school had two sections

and three teachers, namely: Mrs. Dominica Villamor, Mrs. Lolita Castillo, and Mr.

DesiderioOrprecio.

In 1970, the Provincial Government of Kalinga-Apayao headed by Governor

Amador Almazan approved a resolution converting the newly established Community

High School to Kalinga-Apayao Provincial High School (KAPHS). With the increase in its

enrolment, the third- and fourth-year curricula were opened. All available rooms of the

old elementary school building at the Tabuk Central School were utilized in order to

solve the problems of accommodation.

The Provincial Government and the Division Office proposed a school budget

that was good for twenty-four teaching positions. However, upon the opening of classes

for the school year 1970-1971, thirty-three teachers were employed. The hiring of more

teachers which is not in accordance with the budget resulted in the delay of payment of

their salaries. Despite the sad experiences of these teachers, they never relaxed in their

daily classroom activities in imparting knowledge to the students.

In April 1971, the first graduation of the KAPHS took place. There were 53

graduates composed of 27 boys and 26 girls. The graduation was so memorable and

gratifying to note for many of the graduating students passed the qualifying government

examinations for possible scholarships in college.

In 1973, Republic Act No. 6470 mandated the conversion of the KAPHS to Tabuk

National High School (TNHS). In June 1973, Superintendent Epifanio T. Ramos appointed

Mrs. Joaquina C. Falgui as the first Principal of TNHS.

Despite the nationalization worked out by the Provincial Government, Governor

Rolando T. Puzon continued looking for a solution to the unpaid salaries of teachers and

employees. This problem finally settled down during the administration of Governor

Lawrence B. Wacnang when all these salaries were paid.

On June 27, 1988, her excellency, President Corazon C. Aquino, through

Proclamation No. 277, awarded Lot 1461, PS-93 to TNHS. This lot had an area of 32, 233

square meters.

Mrs. Purificacion E. Domingo, the successor of Mrs. Joaquina C. Falgui, also made

a big contribution to the school before the implementation of a new curriculum, the

Special Science Class, introduced by Officer-in-charge Mrs. Aurora E. Plan in 1997. The

Special Science Class become the banner program of the school.

Mrs. Honofrea M. Barcellano followed as the officer-in-charge until Dr. Rodolfo

C. Ballog took office in 1997.

Tabuk National High School started to pave its way to a higher pedestal as it

accumulated awards at regional and national levels in both co-curricular and extra-

curricular activities. With the very satisfactory performance of the Special Science

Curriculum, the Special Program in Sports and the Special Program in the Arts were also

implemented. The separation and nationalization of the annexes and extensions of the
Republic of the Philippines

school in Buaya, Balbalan; Uma, Lubuagan; New Tanglag and, Balong, Tabuk City were

remarkably established. Bantay-Extension is also under the process of nationalization.

On February 20, 2012, by virtue of City Ordinance No. 1, series of 2012, Tabuk

National High School was successfully converted to Tabuk City National High School.

On October 1, 2015, Mrs. Mildred S. Cabay became the successor of Dr. Ballog

after the leadership of Mrs. Ma. Lourdes B. Antonio as Officer-in-Charge. With Mrs.

Cabay’s leadership, the Special Program in Journalism was added to the program

offerings of the school. It was under her leadership that the K to 12 program was

implemented.

There were 772 students who enrolled under different tracks in the first year of

implementation of the K to 12 program in the S.Y. 2016-2017. 424 enrolled in the

academic track, 29 in the Arts and Design Track, and, 319 in the Technical-Vocational-

Livelihood Track.

At present, with at least 198 employees and approximately 4,600 students in

both junior and senior high schools under the current school head who took over in

September 2020.

The school offers five (5) curriculum programs in the Junior High Schoolto cater

to every student’s interest: the Regular; Science, Technology and Engineering (STE);

Special Program in the Arts (SPA); Special Program in Journalism (SPJ); and Special

Program in Sports (SPS). While in Senior High School, there are two (2) tracks: the

Academic and the Technical-Vocational Livelihood (TVL) Tracks. There are three (3)

strands in the Academic Track: Accountancy, Business, and Management (ABM);

Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM); and Humanities and Social

Sciences (HumSS). The TVL has three (3) strands: Home Economics specializing in Food

and Beverage Services, Housekeeping, and Events Management Servicing; Information

Communication and Technology specializing in Computer System Servicing; and,

In everything that was been done and accomplished, in everything that I do, I
would be honor to dedicate this compilation to my parents, friends, teachers, family,
classmates and all those who become part of this journey. To my parents and family that
despite of lack of money they still send me to school, they have sacrificed time, effort
and money for me. Money can’t buy the hard work and love of my parents. To my friends
you know thyself, I am grateful that I had met you in this journey for you had helped me
emotionally, mentally and you become my second family. To our devoted teachers that
despite of anything you are still there guiding us through our journey. To my classmate
who become part of our journey we might sometimes had a misunderstanding but up
until this time, we our solid as we are from the beginning.

So that’s why I dedicate this portfolio to my parents, friends, teachers, family,

classmates and others. I have not come unto this stage without your help, guidance and
presence. I hope that this journey which was begun will not end as it was at present; I
hope that I can make something out of this.

This portfolio was a visual journey of my experience as an OJT at Tabuk City

National High school. This portfolio showcases an overview of what must be done as
practice teaching. This portfolio contains a detailed story on how teaching process is
being done. This portfolio is like a life story.

I have said this portfolio is a life story because it contains the details on how the
teaching and learning process has been done. It is a narration on how teaching process
is being done; it is a story that contains the main detail of how to be a teacher. This
portfolio contains the two aim of teaching, to impart something and to learn something.
Teaching is the process of sharing ideas, and lesson about the topic and life, while
learning is the understanding of some aspect of life and the topic. Students are present
at school because of the aim of enlightening and want to know more. A teacher is
present to facilitate and guide the student to its learning. Teaching does not only focus
on teaching but to become part of the life of students, because you will not just only
teach but guide, understand each student’s situation and many more.

In addition this portfolio mirrors my goals and objective. How I used teaching
strategies and instructional materials to achieve my goal. Likewise my experience in my
OJT helps me to understand some aspect of teaching, to be open in new changes, to be
molded into what I want to be.

Lastly, this portfolio provides an example on how to be a good teacher. This

portfolio helps me in documenting my experience in practice teaching on how to assess
students, how to develop an affective teaching strategy and how to teach effectively.

My reflection was that, every child is special. Every child has its own uniqueness, talent

skill, weakness and strength.

 As a teacher you must be open to new doors and windows of strategy. You will

be served with different types of learners and it’s up to you how to handle, and

settle the situation.

 Every child has its own skill and talent and you must understand and think of a

way on how to encourage student to show their skill and talent.

 Ever individual has their own weakness and strength and you as a teacher has

the role on how to balance them.

 Teaching field is a colorful journey, in here you will be faced into different types of

learners and you must be ready at all times.
