The first modern Olympics took place in Athens in 1896 and since then, more than a dozen countries have staged the Summer Olympics. Many of the greatest athletes in the world have taken part in the Olympic Games, seeing both tragedies and triumphs over the years as the Games have grown to include over 140 countries participating.
