Grade: 9
Content Area: English
Length of the lesson: 45 minutes

Analyze Learners
A. Students’ characteristics:
This lesson plan is designed for 25 female students from grade 9. Their age varies from 15 to
16. All students have no physical nor mental problems and come from the same cultural
background. They are all youth who are preoccupied with new technologies. Their levels
range from good to excellent.

B. Current Knowledge, Prerequisites, and Notes about Learner Attitudes:

The students know how to build well-formed sentences and they have the required knowledge
of how to use tenses (Present, past, & future). However, the students struggle with using the
right modal verbs.

C. Learning Styles
Most students enjoy the visual learning style that incorporates using pictures and videos in
explaining the lesson, but 20% find listening and speaking activities as more effective in
delivering the information fastly. Lastly, the kinesthetic learning style appeared to be having
the least amount of likings as only 3 students admitted to have enjoyed the hands-on
activities.
State Objectives
ABCDs of strong objectives are included:
By the end of the lesson, 9th grade students will be able to:
A. Properly understand the purpose of using the if clause in English by observing their use in
different given texts and scenarios.
B. Apply each type of conditionals correctly in different contexts by having a conversation with
peers.
C. Write well grammatical sentences using the three conditional types of if clause individually.
Select Strategies, Technology, Media, and Materials
➢ Strategies
Analyze: students will be given different chunks of texts to look at and analyze the use of if
clause in each. This strategy will help students to see how the if clause is used in the texts and
extract the correct structure of the if clause to be able to write well grammatical sentences.
Cooperation: It involves interacting with other students in order to come up with the
appropriate answer. This strategy is useful in giving students the chance to benefit from each
other and exchange their thoughts and ideas about the lesson. Also, they support each other in
understanding the content and the correct use of the if clause rule.
Role play: students will be engaged in conversation with peers where they will be able to
apply the if clause. This strategy will be helpful for them to practice and learn how to use the
if clause in real life correctly.

➢ Media
In order to give the initial information about the lesson, the teacher will use a Canva
presentation. Also, a YouTube video will be presented to enhance students’ understanding.

➢ Technology
The teacher will use the smartboard for explaining the lesson and the tablets for evaluating
the students through quizzes in Wordwall.

➢ Materials
The English Textbook will be used to get the information related to the if clauses and some
activities that students will answer after the explanation of the lesson, Teacher’s slides will be
used to introduce the topic and provide more information for students to understand the if
clauses and different types of conditionals, Handouts will be given to students for further
practice of the if clauses.
Utilize Strategies, Technology, Media, and Materials

A. Preview the materials and technology:

The teacher should have experience using Canva and how to prepare a presentation in it. She
must also make sure that the selected YouTube video is clear, not too long nor too short, suitable
for students’ level, and related to the topic of the lesson. In addition, she should review the Canva
presentation and ensure that the content of the presentation is appropriate and helpful for
students. Lastly, she should review the questions prepared for students in Wordwall and ensure
that they help achieve the desired goals of the lesson.

B. Prepare the materials and technology:

The teacher needs to book a lab ahead of the class and make sure that the smartboard is working
well. Also, tablets need to be provided for each student in order to solve the quizzes designed by
the teacher. Lastly, the teacher needs to have topics for the role play and for the writings that
he/she will be assigning to students during the lesson.

C. Prepare the environment:

The class should take place in the labs in order to access the smartboard and the teacher needs to
make sure that the internet is accessible and strong to guarantee a smooth run for the lesson. The
surroundings ought to be quiet yet powerful in motivating the students. The temperature is warm
and cozy.
D. Prepare the learners:
The teacher will start the lesson with a warm up to reach the topic (The if Clause) to students.
The warm up is about some statements divided into groups where students have to match
between the first clause with its suitable second clause to build if clause sentences, then the
teacher will ask them about what these sentences refer to. Then, she will introduce the intended
objectives of this lesson to have a clear idea of what is expected of them to achieve at the end.

E. Provide the learning experiences:

Following the order of firstly presenting the canva presentation. Then, playing the explanatory
YouTube video. Following this, online quizzes regarding the use of the if clauses are given
through WorWall. Lastly, collaborative activities like role play are used to measure the students’
understanding of the lesson.
Require Learner Participation
Require Learner Participation: The lesson will be summed in two lessons. Students involvement is
expected during the explanation of the lesson and later on the group and individual evaluations and
activities.

Individual activities: The students need to complete the warm up question where they have to match
two clauses individually and discuss their answers later with the whole class. Next, the quiz which
evaluates students’ understanding on WordWall will be in the form of a series of different types of
questions that are random and solo for each student.

Group activities: The students will be divided in groups of 5 and they have to come up with
conversations in a specific topic integrating the if clauses. One student begins with a sentence and the
other completes the dialogue by using an if clause related statement. Each student will end up with a
sentence that follows the sequence of the topic given in the beginning.
Evaluate & Revise
Evaluation methods for each of the following are included:
1. Student Performance
Students understanding will be assessed through two intervals:
1. During the class: students will be assessed through the online game quizzes
(WordWall) to see if they initially well-understand the use of if-clause or not. Here,
students have to demonstrate their correct understanding of the basic structure of
using the if clause. Besides, they will be involved in a role play with peers where they
will be assessed according to specific given criteria related to this task. In the role play
task, students have to correctly accomplish their understanding of the three different
types of conditionals and their use in various contexts.
2. After the class, students will have a short test that include both types of questions:
Objective questions: they include filling in the gap, and multiple choices.
Subjective questions: they include open ended questions where students are given a
specific context and they have to construct well grammatical sentences applying the
suitable types of conditional they learned.
Students' performance in the test and quizzes will be graded according to specific rubrics
given for them from the beginning of the semester. Moreover, their participation in class and
collaboration with groups will also be assessed depending on the teacher’s observation of
students' contribution and performance during the class.

2. Technology and Media Effectiveness

➔ By observing how students interact with this technology and seeing their responses and
answers in the activities, it can give an idea of whether the technology and the media used are
effective in conveying information about the explained rule and engaging students during the
lesson by raising their enthusiasm and attention about the content presented. Also, the level of
students and their knowledge about dealing with technology and various media affects the
choice of the type of technology, methods, and activities that the teacher can provide to them
in a way that suits their level and at the same time achieves the desired goals.
➔ The teacher can ask students about their feelings and attitudes of dealing with such a type of
technology or media and how they find it, whether it is useful and simple to use or not.
Therefore, by collecting students’ responses about the used media and technology and
considering their suggestions if there are, the teacher can evaluate the type of media and
technology she uses and make some adjustments in upcoming classes.

3. Instructor Performance
The teacher can discuss with the first teacher of the same field about her lesson plan and what
she does so that she can get helpful feedback from experienced staff where she will benefit in
making possible improvements on her teaching method and her lesson plan. Also, the teacher
can ask her students to fill out a given evaluation survey at the end of the lesson to see their
opinions, reactions, suggestions, and thoughts of the lesson and her performance. Then,
depending on the responses she gets, she will have a clear and helpful view on what areas she
may need to focus more and what aspects she may need to modify and improve for upcoming
classes. Finally, she might ask her supervisor to attend her class, and provide her with
comments, feedback, suggestions, etc on her performance and teaching methods, style, and so
on to be able to assess her performance and improve for the better.

Revise: students' outcomes in tests will determine their understanding, teacher’s effective use of
strategies, technology and the lesson objective. Therefore, possible modifications and improvements
can be done with this regard to make the lesson plan more effective.
Note: students’ feedback can be collected online by using Mentimeter, Google Doc, online Forum,
google classroom, etc. or in-real time through handing out questionnaires, surveys, or even asking
students to write a reflection.
