ACCOMPLISHMENT
REPORT IN BIG
BROTHER BIG SISTER
READING PROGRAM
S. Y. 2019-2020

Introduction
Reading is the basic foundation of all learning areas. Through reading, pupils can
easily understand and analyze every detail of what they are going to do particularly in noting
details and problem solving in Mathematics. Therefore, the school will try its best on how to
help the challenged children in reading particularly the Grade One and Grade Two pupils

In connection with this, it is aligned also from the Dep Ed. (SINORA) simultaneous noon
time program and (BUS) Basahin Unawain Sulatin Program.

The foundation for reading success is formed long before as child reaches first grade. In
the first grade, children begin to use reading ability to define themselves and their level of
academic success. Although some children are able to teach themselves how to sound out
words, other children need to be taught these skills or may have lifelong reading problems.

In order to avoid leaving some children behind, our dear principal shares her ideas to
implement this “BIG BROTHER AND BIG SISTER READING PROGRAM”. The teachers from
first grade and second grades will observe and identify the challenged pupils in reading from
June to July. From their observations, the teachers will identify already who will be in the
lists as the challenged readers.

Good readers from intermediate will be pulled out from their room from 12:45 – 1:15 pm
daily, from Monday to Friday. They will be gathering in the gymnasium altogether having
their sit upon and find a comfortable place with them. Materials will be given by the
teachers of grade one and two.

In cooperation with the community, general PTA Officers and the Barangay Officials, they
will be included in the Monitoring Team to see the progress of pupils in reading.

Reading Materials should feature a high proportion of new words that children can
sound out using the letter-sound relationships they have been taught. Reading pleasure is
equally important, and text should be interesting and meaningful as possible.

Every child reader is an attainable goal of Bagumbayan Elementary School for all
children this school year 2019-2020 onwards because we believe that “WORKING
TOGETHER” to reach our goal is already a victory.

Objectives:
1. To introduce to the challenged readers from Grade One to
Grade Two the basic foundation in reading

2. To instill in the mind of the readers the love for reading

3. To produce “EVERY CHILD A READER” at Bagumbayan

REFLEFCTION OF PARENTS

My child is a pupil of Bagumbayan Elementary

School. The parents were met by the English teachers
regarding the reading state of our children. We were told
by the teachers that an intervention is needed to
improve our children’s reading ability. The school has a
Big Brother Big Sister Program that aims to help our
children in Grade One to improve their skills in reading.
This was thoroughly discussed to us. As expected of us,
the parents, we supported our children in this program.
As a mother, I am very proud to see my child
improve. I am also ecstatic to see her interest in reading.
She looks for books to read and she seems interested
into it. I can also hear her pronounce the words correctly
during reading. I can say that the program of the school
is an effective one because it honed my child’s love for
reading.
Problems and Solutions
Root Causes of the Solutions
Problems
-unfamiliarity with -provide reading
words materials suited to the
level
-lack of interest -provide guidance of
parents and teachers
-distracted by -motivation from
peers/seatmates teachers/parents
Learnings

1. BIG BROTHER, BIG SISTER Reading Program

developed the young learners from Grades I and II, the
genuine love for reading with the help and guidance of the
assigned Big Brothers and Sisters from good Grades V
and VI readers.

2. Teachers from Grades I and II employed their own made

reading materials suited to the reading level of the
challenged readers.

3. Varied reading materials such as teacher-made, big

books, drill boards, ICT, and charts helped a lot to
establish the pupils’ basic know-how in reading.

4. Teachers’ commitment to apply the said reading program

and project lessen the agony of the school about the
challenged readers.

5. Involvement of parents and other stakeholders is very

significant to attain the school’s vision: “Every Child a
Reader.”
Roll Out Learning

1.The program develops the young mind of the

learners for the basic foundation in reading.

2.Strategies and techniques also apply to gain

the attention of the young learners such as
ICT, teacher-made reading materials, charts,
big books, and drill boards.

3.Answering the questions after reading would

develop the comprehension skills of the young
learners.
Problems Met
1. Time constraints due to the different activities of the learners especially the Big
Brothers and Big Sisters

Solution/s
1. Re-scheduling is necessary
