II. Content:
Topic: Identifying and Using the Types of Subject and Predicate in a
Sentence
Introduction: A simple sentence has its parts, the subject and the
predicate. A subject and predicate can be simple, compound
and complete.
There are variations in writing a simple sentence:
It can be simple subject with simple predicate, compound
subject with simple predicate, simple predicate with
compound subject.

on, Tin,” said Jed. “We must hurry, so that I can give this
basket of fruits to Grandma,” he added. When they arrived,
Grandmother hugged them.

What have you noticed on the underlined words? Do they answer the
question “Who” in the sentence? What kind of words are they?
They are called the “ simple subject of the sentence.” It answers the
question of who and the persons talked about in the sentence. It is the
doer or actor. It can be a noun or a pronoun.

There are three types of subject and predicate:
1. A simple subject is a keyword or phrase being described.
A simple predicate contains only the verb and a helping verb.

2. A compound subject has two words or phrases joined to share a verb.
A compound predicate has two verbs shared by the same object. The
verbs are joined by a conjunction.

3. A complete subject includes the simple subject and the
modifiers.
A complete predicate is everything except the subject. It has
