    1. Why am I using the Internet?


    - We use the internet for a lot of purposes, such as online learning and chatting with our friends.
    The internet has a lot of purposes. It is used to communicate with a wide range of audiences to
    build connections, gather crucial information, transact personal and professional business, and
    entertain ourselves.
    2. Why can’t people live without the Internet today?
    - Based on my perspective, people can’t live without the internet because it has become part of
    our daily lives. A lot of jobs are now digitized nowadays. For example, since I am a shopee
    seller, I need to use the internet to promote my items; otherwise, I wouldn’t have any means of
    income to support my studies.

    3. How many Filipinos have access to the internet?
    - According to a 2021 survey conducted by Pulse Asia, they found out that 63% of adult
    Filipinos have access to the internet.
    4. What are the facts and evidence on the number of Filipinos using it?
    - According to Meltwater website, article title “Social Media Statistics in the Philippines
    [Updated 2023] by Jaime de Guzman, 76.01 million Filipinos spend 10 hours and 27 minutes
    using the internet. This accounts for 68% of the total population of the country. Almost everyone
    accesses the internet through their personal gadgets, with 97.2% using a mobile phone.
    5. How has the Internet changed the lifestyle of Filipinos?
    Based on my perception, we Filipinos have a habit of following popular trends. The internet
    proved that we Filipinos are outgoing. However, it also exposed us to different controversial
    ideologies; we became open to progressive topics and became socially aware of the issues our
    society is facing today. We became involved in topics related to political and societal issues.
    Implications and consequences
    6. Having been hooked on social networks, what are their implications to Filipinos?
    What are the advantages and disadvantages?
    - Ever since social networks like Facebook and Instagram became popular, they have changed
    our way of life. The positive impact and advantages of social networks to our fellow Filipinos are
    that we become more connected with our friends and families, and we become informed and
    socially aware of the events happening all around the world. However, despite the advantages of
    social networks, there are also negative impacts and disadvantages. With the thousands of pieces
    of information we see online every day, we are prone to disinformation and fake news. Social

    networks can cause depression and anxiety in their users. It creates higher expectations and
    disillusionment with reality.
    7. What ethical and unethical traits have emerged due to the use of the Internet?
    - Due to the use of the internet, people have adapted progressive and humane ideologies. We
    became more sensitive and respectful of other cultures. Online debates have helped us think
    about what is morally right and wrong. The internet increased our social awareness on topics
    such as feminism, women’s rights, global warming, and social justice. However, there are also
    unethical traits that emerged due to the use of the internet, such as invasion of privacy, stalking,
    cyberbullying, hacking, and the spread of illegal pornography that includes children or minors.

    8. What is the original purpose of the inventor of the internet? Of social networks?
    -It is believed that the internet was developed by DARPA for military purposes. It is a global
    network that connects billions of computers all around the world. Today, the internet is used to
    communicate, share information, entertainment, research, and get news.
    9. What is the purpose of Facebook? What was Zuckerberg’s purpose when he
    invented it?
    -Mark Zuckerberg wanted to create a website that was similar to a yearbook. That's why he
    created Facebook—to connect Harvard students with one another. It is a place that brings
    students together. Now, Facebook is used globally by different users to connect with friends,
    families, and colleagues. This website allows users to share pictures, music, videos, articles, and
    much more.
