Course Description The course analyzes Philippine history from multiple perspectives
through the lens of selected primary sources coming from various
disciplines and of different genres. Students are given opportunities to
analyze the author's background and main arguments, compare different
points of view, identify biases and examine the evidences presented in
the document. The discussions will tackle traditional topics in history
and other interdisciplinary themes that will deepen and broaden their
understanding of Philippine political economic, cultural, social, scientific
and religious history. Priority is given to primary materials that could
help students develop their analytical and communication skills. The end
goal is to develop the historical and critical consciousness of the
students so that they will become versatile, articulate, broadminded,
morally upright and responsible citizens.
This course includes mandatory topics on the Philippine Constitution,
agrarian reform, and taxation.

Learning Outcomes At the end of the semester, the students should be able to:

1. Examine the meaning of history as an academic discipline;

2. Assess the importance of History in the social and national life
of the Filipinos;
3. Understand and assess primary documents in different
historical periods in the Philippines;
4. Interpret primary sources of History and the context behind each
documents;
5. Interpret historical events;
6. Assess the advantages and disadvantages in employing critical
tool in the interpretation of historical events based on the
sources ;
7. Analyze Social, Political, Economic and Cultural issues in the
Philippines using the lens in History.
8. Analyze issues in Philippine society through History and possibly
give solutions to these issues;
9. Apply historical methods in writing history of one’s locality and
country;
10. Appreciate the value of doing history to the present history.
11. Analyze the important provisions of the 1987 constitution
12. Apply the provisions of the constitution in the current issues and
problems of the Philippine society
