    MODULE ACTIVITY 1
    1. Watch the documentary: “After the storm: Building Pope Francis Village”

    2. If you are the community organizer or facilitator, what are the challenges that you might
    encounter in Pope Francis Village?
    Give at least 3 examples and explain.
    A. The community might not believe in my capabilities.
    - Organizing can be very hard especially if you came from somewhere far and a lot of people
    may not know. It’s hard to believe unless you’re really a good speaker/organizer. I know to
    myself that I may be able to talk and unite young people but with older people, I don’t have
    enough confidence and for sure I will overthink on how they will criticize me for my decisions.
    B. People are still in shock
    - People may not be as cooperative because of shock and other emotions that they feel after the
    typhoon.
    C. Leaders/ staffs must have courage
    - Handling events or programs especially to people who experienced trauma is hard because we
    must show strong personality as to give hope to people that everything will eventually be okay.
    Having a high morale while seeing those people who endured hardship can be difficult so
    everyone must be physically and mentally prepared.

    Journal Writing

    How can you unite a divided community and, eventually, empowering them?
    Dagobert D. Runes, a philosopher and author once said, “Dictators long ago found that it is
    easier to unite people in common hatred than in common love.” With that being said, I believe
    that this quotation is somewhat true. Everyone can unite especially when there’s a storm. People
    who undergo same hardship and faced with an obstacle can trust one another because their
    common enemy is the circumstance and with that perspective, I guess it is somehow easier to
    unite a divided community and empowerment can follow. Practically speaking, it is for me to
    talk to the people and make them realize that the situation is hard as is and the only thing that
    they could for one another is to help and be there for each other as they will go along the way of

    rebuilding the community. No one is rich or poor when difficulties strike, everyone should be as
    humane as possible in order to bounce back at their feet.
