Quarter 1 – Module 1:
EVALUATING THE TITLE PAGE OF
RESEARCH PAPER

iii
Most Essential Learning Competency

Utilize the standards (criteria or checklist) in evaluating

research paper. (peer / group/ expert evaluation)

iv
EVALUATING THE TITLE PAGE

Introduction

In the previous years, you learned different skills in

writing a scientific research paper. Moreover, in Grade
9, you understand the different parts of the research
paper and then you prepared and presented a
research proposal.
In this module, you will revisit the
suggestions/recommendations given by the
experts/teachers/peers during the research proposal.
You will utilize it together with the standards (criteria or
checklist) in evaluating the title page of your previous
research paper. Thus, you are expected to refine your
research paper by revising it based from the
suggestions/recommendations given and the
standards used in evaluating the title page of the
research paper.

Most Essential Learning

Competency & Objectives

In this module, you will utilize the standards

(criteria or checklist) in evaluating research paper.
(peer/ group/ expert evaluation)
Specifically, you should be able to:
1. Review the suggestions/recommendations given by
the experts/teachers/peers to refine the previous
research Proposal.
2. Identify standards (criteria or checklist) used in
evaluating the Title page of a research paper.
3. Conduct a peer/group evaluation utilizing the
standards (criteria/ checklist) in evaluating the Title
of research paper.
4. Revise research project using the standards in
evaluating the Title of research paper.

Duration: 2 meetings

Activity 1- Recalling Time!!!

Do you still remember the suggestions/

recommendations given by the
experts/advisers/peers to improve your presented
research paper when you were in Grade 9?
In this activity you will recall all those
suggestions/ recommendations.
In the first column of Table 1 contains the
parts of a research paper. Opposite of it, in the
second column you will write the suggestions /
recommendations given by the experts /advisers/
peers. Use a separate piece of paper if necessary.

You’re done listing the suggestions/recommendations
given by the experts/advisers/peers to improve your
research paper. Though you listed all the
suggestions/recommendations to improve the paper,
however in the next activity, you will evaluate only the title
page of your research paper using the given suggestions/
recommendations and the standards (criteria/checklist) for
evaluating a title page. The other parts of the paper will be
evaluated in the next modules.

Activity 2 - It’s Evaluating Time!!!

Directions: Answer the checklist. Place a check mark ( ) on your answer.

A. Self-Evaluation

2. Do all the contents of the title page typed in uppercases and
lower cases?
3. Does all the contents centred on the page?
4. Is the title page numbered?
5. Does the title page contains the following:
a. Research title
b. Full names of researcher/s
c. Submission statement
d. School
e. Date submitted

● The entire text in the title page is aligned at the centre.

● It must be double-spaced and the margin is set at one inch on all sides.
● Use Times New Romans at 12 points.
● The contents of the title page are typed in uppercases and lowercases.
● The title of a research paper answers the question: “What did you study?”
It is a brief statement of the topic and clearly identifies the variables
investigated.

8
● The usual length of a research title is 10 to 15 words.
● Use italics for words in a foreign language.

Now that you are familiar already with the standards

(criteria) in evaluating a Title page, you can now
revise your research title page correctly. Good luck!

E laborate/ Extend
tend
In the previous activities you performed, you learned that a
title is a brief statement of the topic. It answers the
question, “What did you study?” It clearly identifies the
variables investigated.

Below is a sample abstract. Read and analyse the

abstract then recommend a title of this study.

Abstract
This study is an evaluation of the feasibility of extracting
gum from Taro (Colocassia esculenta) using solvent and
mechanical extraction and two method of drying, namely, solar
drying and oven-drying and the isolation of pectin as calcium
pectate from the petioles. Results were evaluated in terms of the
average percentage yield of gum and pectin. Tests for pH,
moisture and ash content, and solubility were likewise conducted.
Results show that the yield on sun-dried petioles is not
significantly different from the yield on oven-dried petioles.
Hence, it was shown that the sun-drying method is cheaper and
more beneficial in maximizing the yield of gum from Taro
petioles. It was also found out that pectin can be isolated as
calcium pectate from Taro petioles.

Guide Questions:
1. What is the subject matter of the study?

2. What are the dependent and independent variables of the study?
