Structured Learning Episode
by SALVADOR C. COMBO,EdD/DBM
TOPIC: Contextualization and Localization of Instructional Materials
for 21st Century Learners, Division of Albay.
I. Objectives:
At the end of the session, the teachers are expected to.
1. To assists teachers, comprehend concepts by relating and
presenting a lesson in the context of the prevailing
local environment, culture, and resources.
2. To help teachers, learn language skills by using the
authentic contexts in which students must use those
skills in the real world.
3. To discuss the educational process of relating the
curriculum to a setting, situation or area of application
to make the competencies relevant, meaningful and useful
to all learners.
II. Content:
Gain functional and operational understanding of
localization and contextualization in the Basic Education
Program (BEP). Identify ways on how the curriculum and/or
subject could be localized/contextualized. Express
appreciation of the need to adapt to the learners’ diversity
through contextualization.
III. Materials:
PC/Laptop with internet connection.
Printed Materials.
IV. Strategies
A. Activity
Using the Venn diagram compare and contrast
contextualization from localization.

Contextualized and Localized Teaching as a Technique in
Teaching Basic Statistics by Rodelio M. Garin (MAM)
Abstract - Problems on students’ diversity with
diverse needs still persist nowadays. To address this
problem, the teacher needs to be conscious on their
socio-cultural background so as to benefits everyone in
the classroom. This study determined the effect of
teaching statistics using contextualized and localized
(indigenized) information on the performance of students.
The study was carried out using pretest posttest control
group single blind experimental research design. Two
intact classes were used and this was done by random
assignment. There are thirty-four students exposed to
contextualized and localized teaching (experimental) and
thirty students exposed to contextualize but not
localized teaching (control). Test for independent
samples and ANCOVA was utilized in comparing the pretest
and posttest performances of the two groups. Concerning
on the result, it was found out that the performance of
the experimental group was significantly different to the
performance of the control group on the empirical
probability, but they were not significantly different on
the theoretical probability. The finding indicates that
the use of indigenous data in teaching statistics along
empirical probability is an effective teaching and
learning strategy. Additionally, the study recommends
developing an authentic, contextualized and localized
instructional material in statistics subject to improve
the performance of the students.
Based on the abstract presented on Contextualized
and Localized Teaching as a Technique in Teaching Basic
Statistics.
The two teaching techniques that were used in this
study and the written performance of the students in
Statistics. This study considered two objectives:
1. The pre-test and post-test performance of the
students exposed to the different approaches,
2. And the significant difference in the pre-test
and post-test performances of the students across
group.
In designing activities in the classroom using
authentic materials, it is important to set the purpose
first. Helpful questions.
1. How will students interact with the material?
2. What will students learn?
3. Why will they learn it?
