He moved to Brussels and Ghent in July 1891 to publish the novel more cheaply, with help from Valentin Ventura in printing it. The Ghent edition came off the press on September 18, 1891. El Filibusterismo is a sequel to Rizal's first novel Noli Me Tangere and focuses more on political themes than the romantic themes of Noli.
