Coseptualizing Social Studies
1. What do you think are the reasons for such dismal state of Social Studies education in the Philippines?
➢ for me that is why it is difficult for those who study social studies today, because with the passage
of time people are changing our history. It is difficult to understand why people suddenly change
our past, but what caused children to learn misinformation about our society, our heroes, and
where it all began. And most students today say that social studies is a boring subject ... it's hard
to imagine that in our time our history has become meaningless, also because of the modern
equipment that students use today in their education ... but there are still some children who are
valued and still eager to learn social studies. It is not only about our history but also about the
daily happenings in our society.
2. How can the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) assist the Department of Education (DepEd) in
solving the identified challenges?
➢ The Commission on Higher Education is the Philippine government’s agency in charged with
promoting relevant and quality higher education, ensuring access to quality higher education, and
guaranteeing and protecting academic freedom for continuing intellectual growth, advancement
of learning and research, development of responsible and effective leadership, education of high
level professionals, and enrichment of historical and cultural heritages.
3. Suggest one intervention or program that would address the challenges enumerated above. Explain
why you have chosen that intervention or program.
➢ I suggest Positive Classroom Discipline, because it focuses on discipline rather than punishment. It
aims to teach children to understand and follow social rules, both within the classroom and
outside it, without using physical or emotional violence. It emphasizes teaching children to do
things right rather than punishing them for doing wrong. Teachers need to build a classroom
environment were positive interactions are the norm a ponutive consequences are minimized.
Reindicates that coercive or ponutive environments actually promote antisocial behavior.
TASK 2: Five-Minute Paper
What was the most useful or the most meaningful thing you learned in this
learning material? Expound your answer.
For me, the most useful and meaningful thing that I learned in
this module is the History of Foundation Theory, because the
History foundation theory is an extension or deeper
interpretation of the Big Bang Theory. Here, conventional
wisdom holds that, since History Education existed since 1916,
obviously History was seedbed or promulgator of Social
Studies. It described the historical processes that have
contributed significantly to global change.
It demonstrated an understanding of the interplay of the
fundamental historical forces (political, social, economic,
cultural, scientific, and/or technological) that have shaped the
contemporary world, this Foundation Theory it promotes a
sense of freedom and encourage educational reform through
history, we learn that programs are considered pioneering due
to the different philosophies to which others subscribed.
