ACTIVITY 2

ANG HULING PRINSESA (REFLECTION PAPER)

Kara David, along with the team and crew of I-Witness, discovers the history and tale of the Binukot
behind the mountains and forests of Capiz. They have effectively documented the story of Binukot's vanishing
tradition.

Upon reading at the title, I thought that it was really a fairy tale like in other movies. I thought that it was
just a story. I love watching and reading about princesses that is why when I saw Kara David's documentary, I
was happy because it taught me about another chapter in our country's history. I can’t believe that princess
also exist here in our country. It's also fascinating to note that as of now, there are still some binukot trying to
preserve their culture.

The Binukot are ladies who live as though they are princesses, hidden in huts. They are the only ones who
are aware of their epic. Lola Isiang is one of the Binukot in the documentary. She always wore a veil to keep her
face hidden. And she needed to be lifted up with a cradle so her feet didn't touch the ground. Someone feeds,
combs, and bathes Lola Isiang as if she is princess. Despite her lifestyle, she was unable to play or attend
school. And all they do is do their native dance and sing a very long epic.

If you believe it is desirable to live the life of a princess. But looking at Lola Isiang makes me feel pitiful. She
never knew what it was like to be a kid. However, for someone to bring their epic, she must be a Binukot. And
as a result of our country's conquest, the Binukot were the first to perish since their legs were weak. As a
result, the parents opted not to isolate their children. But, despite everything, how is the epic they've been
cultivating for so long? It's heartbreaking to think that a piece of Philippine history may be gone. But in the
other hand, there are still those who place a high value on their wealth. The same as Frederico Caballero and
the residents of their village. By constructing the "Balay Turun-an," they were able to preserve their tradition
alive. It's entertaining, and they don't even have to force a lady into becoming a Binukot.

It just demonstrates that we can keep a treasure like the epic (which only the binukot are aware of) in a
proper manner, and that not just one person is aware of it, but the entire tribe is. And be able to function
regularly in the new period. The Binukot may not stay long and eventually vanish from our country, but it will
live on in our history for as long as there are people who value it.

BS BIOLOGY- 1B UNDERSTANDING THE SELF

ACTIVITY 3

I think one of the theories that apply to me is Carl Roger’s Self theory: Real and Ideal self. The ideal self is
the person that you would like to be; the real self is the person you actually are. Rogers focused on the idea
that we need to achieve consistency between these two selves. I have this thought in my mind. I always think
that, “what if I am not like this”, “what if I am not born this way.” I also always wish to be like one of the others.
But still I love myself--my real self.
It doesn’t changed my perception of the self. I gain more knowledge about how to be the best version of
yourself. Even if they had different perspective, they still have the same thought. I learned that If you have your
own ideal self, it will help you to be who you wanna be, It just all means that you have goals that you want to
achieve and prove to your yourself.
