MICE ESSENTIALS: PRE- AND POST-PANDEMIC
Earlier this afternoon, the MICE ESSENTIALS: PRE- AND POST-PANDEMIC was
conducted via Zoom, which has a lot of students attended from Leyte Normal University.
The speaker was Ms. Maria May Militante, an intelligent speaker indeed because of her
inspiring story. So how does the webinar help us as a student? What are the benefits of
it to us?
The webinar started from the background of what really MICE is. According to her,
MICE signify as Meeting, Incentive, Convention and Exhibition events that are profitable
and a central part of business-related tourism. It makes up a big part of global business
travel since every industry has regular events of some kind. Her message was really
helpful to as especially for those students’ who are planning to take up event planning as
their specialization.
The speaker also discussed various topics; meetings are usually held in a specific
location and involve a specific activity. This event shares ideas or information with
comprehensible goals, and it usually takes place in a place that can accommodate huge
gatherings. Next is incentive travel, it is given to employees as a reward. The rewards
here are not profit, they’re the thanks for a job well done. Human resources and
management use such treats to boost morale, improve relationships and teamwork, and
ultimately to benefit productivity. Events centered around professional learning or
discussion is called conference. A conference’s primary goal is the exchange of
information, usually relevant to a particular topic area. In this time of pandemic,
conference has been transformed into a virtual assembly. Lastly, Exhibitions can also be
part of conferences and meetings. During exhibitions, companies showcase their
products or services, again, usually on a certain theme. They are essential for client
acquisitions, impressing them with new products. Exhibitions most commonly happen in
tech and art but are not limited to these worlds. COVID-19 is disrupting exhibitions but
innovative online solutions are appearing.
The pandemic has been a tough time for the MICE industry, but there are
opportunities and learnings to be had in the coming months. So, we can say the future is
both bright and inevitable for MICE events, and the increased adaptation to online events
will only expand them further.
Overall, the webinar was an eye opener for us students on how we define MICE and
apply all the knowledge we have learned, in our future. I may have experienced problems
with my internet connectivity; Indeed, the event was successful and Kudos to the people
behind the event. Especially to our teachers who made a lot of effort to make this event
possible.
