    Why study the life and works of Rizal?
    ASAQ:
     It is important that we study the life and work of Rizal to know what happened during Rizal’s time
    and what he did then in our country.

    Why was the Roman Catholic Church in the Philippines strongly opposed
    the action taken by the government to enact into law the Senate Bill 438?
    ASAQ:
     During the 1955 Senate election, the church charged Recto with being a communist and an anti-
    Catholic. After Recto's election, the Church continued to oppose the bill mandating the reading
    of Rizal's novels Noli Me Tángere and El Filibusterismo, claiming it would violate freedom of
    conscience and religion.

     The lesson we can learn from Dr. Jose Rizal is love for God, country and countrymen. their
    bravery and courage, he is the gentlest and noblest.

    2. How would reading Rizal’s novels impart patriotism?


    ASAQ:
     Jose Rizal a determined man who wanted peace by creating this political group to fight and get their
    freedom back. It inspires many people by Rizal's books and words as he wanted freedom. Jose wrote
    two novels Noli Me Tangere and El Filibusterismo to show people how the Philippines were being
    bondaged by Spain.

    1. Who is Dr. Jose Rizal?


     José Protasio Rizal Mercado y Alonso Realonda was a Filipino nationalist and polymath during the
    tail end of the Spanish colonial period of the Philippines. He is tagged as the national hero of the
    Philippines. He was born on June 19, 1861 at Calamba, José Rizal came from a 13-
    member family consisting of his parents, Francisco Mercado II and Teodora Alonso Realonda, and
    nine sisters and one brother. Rizal was educated in Manila and at the University of Madrid. A
    brilliant medical student, he soon committed himself to the reform of Spanish rule in his home
    country, though he never advocated Philippine independence. He died on December 30, 1896 at
    Rizal Park, Manila. He died disowning the revolution. But his death sounded the death knell to the
    colonial government of Spain in the Philippines. Two years after Rizal's death, there was national
    euphoria with the opening of the Malolos Congress. Freedom and democracy, it seemed was here to
    stay, the colonial crisis was finally over.

    2. What are the criteria set by the National Heroes Committee or NHC for the
    Recognition of the national hero?
     The National Heroes Committee (NHC) has three criteria to determine someone as a national hero .
    First Heroes are those who have a concept of nation and thereafter aspire and struggle for the
    nation’s freedom second heroes are those who define and contribute to a system or life of freedom
    and order for a nation and last heroes are those who contribute to the quality of life and destiny of a
    nation. 

    3. What are the Laws Honoring/Commemorating Filipino Historical Figures-

     The Laws Honoring/Commemorating Filipino Historical Figures-for Dr. Rizal

     A. Decree of December 20, 1898, issued by General Emilio Aguinaldo, declared December 30 of
    every year a day of national mourning in honor of Dr. Jose Rizal and other victims of the Philippine
    Revolution.

     B. Act No. 137, which organized the politico-military district of Morong into the Province of Rizal,
    was the first official step taken by the Taft Commission to honor our greatest hero and martyr.

    4. Differentiate Victorian hero from a Modern-day hero.
     Victorian hero-one who is usually a dashing oriental knight in shining armor, prudent, dashing, cool
    under pressure while Modern- day hero is someone who fights for a good cause and positive makes
    a difference in the world. 

    5. Who was the main proponent of the Rizal Bill?


     Senator Claro M. Recto was the main proponent of the Rizal Bill. He sought to sponsor the bill at
    Congress.
