TITLE: CALAMANSI EXTRACT AS HYPER PIGMENTED SCAR MINIMIZER

INTRODUCTION AND RATIONALE

What is the general situation/ circumstance that makes you develop your research proposal?

 There are people like me who get insecure of their skin because of dark scars may it be
from acne, or from abrasion. Sometimes I want to wear short sleeves dresses or clothes, but
I get insecure of my skin because of my scars. I also know some people who wants certain
work, but visible scars are prohibited and last but not the least there are people who will
badmouth you if you have scars, it gets to your nerves and get pissed because they are
being judgmental and feel like they don’t have any flaws. That is why I want to find remedies
that could brighten up dark scars. And I did some research and found out that Calamansi is
rich with vitamin c, and vitamin c helps in brightening the skin. So, I got hooked up with that
information and I want to do and an experimentation if Calamansi extract would help
brighten up my dark scars.

Why is this situation important?

 It is essential to know that scar can mean many different things to different people. One
thing that has become very clear to me is that there are a wide range of things which
influence how we feel about scars, including the location of the scar, our age and sex and
how the scar occurred. Facial scars can be very distressing but other less visible scars can
also be very upsetting.  Places a great deal of importance on how we look. While scars are
considered desirable in some societies and may even be inflicted deliberately, in the
majority of cultures this is not the case. Often the "bad" character in a film is portrayed as
having facial scarring which highlights the fact that our society not only views scars as
undesirable but also perpetuates the myth that those with scars are likely to be less than
pleasant people.

 I intend to do an experiment on calamansi extract to determine the capability of it in

Why is your study important?

o The significance of my research lies in the capabililty of the calamansi extract and to
the people who needs remedies for their dark scars specifically for those who can’t
afford expensive surgical minimizing process for it.
Who or what industry will benefit your study? Why? How?

o The study will redound to the benefit of the people considering that there are a lot
who wants to raise their confidence about their skin.

What would be the potential contribution insight of your research?

 There are a lot calamansi products in the market that has the purpose to rejuvenate the
skin. But the thing is those products have chemicals like alcohol that change the original
composition of calamansi. If calamansi extract itself would help minimizing the appearance
of dark scars it would be a great contribution to a lot of people to make them feel better
about their skin.

What questions would you want to answer?

 To determine the capability of Citronella Microcarpa (calamansi) extract in min imizing the
appearance of dark scars.

The following questions must be answered;

1. How long does it take to brighten up the scars?

LITERATURE REVIEW

What are the current/relevant topics and literature related to the situation/circumstance?

 According to survey acne scars is one the most common disease affecting 650 million people
around the world. It is a multifactorial disease encompassing comedones, papules, pustules,
nodules and scars. Scarring can remain for life and therefore act as a prominent and visible
reminder of the disease.

What are the gaps in the existing literature?

 The problem of minimizing the appearance of dark scars in inexpensive ways using remedies
we can do at home and that can be bought in local markets.

What makes your study different from previous study?

 This study is different from previous study because this focuses on the capability of the
citronella microcarpa (calamansi) extract itself only. There will be no other chemical or
substances that will be mixed to the extract in order to determine the ability of the extract
In its raw form.

SCOPE AND LIMITATION

This section sets the restrictions of your study due to time, budgetary requirements and your capability.

What are the parameters of your study (data collection method, analysis, discussion, interview,
etc.)?

 The scope of this study will cover the effects of the calamansi extract to the highly
pigmented scars. The calamansi will be bought only in the local market or will be obtained
on my parents’ house in San Nicolas in order to save money. The range of information in this
study will only revolve to the calamansi extracts effect to the scar and with the goal to
redound its benefit to the people’s problem about their highly pigmented scars only.

METHODS

What is the design of your study?

 Evaluative research is the design of my study. This study will focus on the effects of the
calamansi extract to the highly-pigmented scars in order to provide for people’s need,
want’s, usability and desires, the design will evaluate the scars using set of standards within
a specific time frame set by the researcher.

DATA GATHERING METHOD

What tool will you use in gathering your data?

 Observation will be the tool to use in gathering the data. By seeing and comparing the
difference of the scars before and after the intended time frame for the experimentation.

ETHEICAL ISSUES

Think of the circumstances in which your respondents’ participation will compromise their rights to the
privacy and confidentiality. Also consider the data gathering method. Avoid intrusion and do not put
them at risk.

Consider your respondents:

Do you need to obtain informed consent from the parents, DSWD, and other agencies?

 The only information consent needed in my study is from myself and especially from my
parents because the money that will be used to buy calamansi will be coming from them.

Do you need to get the name of your respondent’s?

 No. there will be no respondents needed in my study.

Do you need to label your subject?

 No, because the experimentation will only be done at home.

How would you analyze your data?

Briefly describe your data analysis technique supported by references to research applying the analysis
to similar situations.

 Predictive analysis, will be used to analyze the information gathered before, during and after
the experimentation by observing the highly pigmented scars within the time frame and
evaluating it’s appearance using set of standards in order to answer the presumption about
the capability of citronella microcarpa (calamansi) extract in minimizing the appearance of
highly pigmented scars.
