SPEECH LAB STATUS REPORT

As of September 6, 2011

I-Introduction

Sta. Irene National High School is one of the recipients of Speech

Laboratory given by the province of Agusan del Sur through the effort of
Congressman Hon. Rodolfo G. Plaza last November 2009. It has 20 stations which
the students can use during their class in English. Each station has an ATT Box
200D model, headset and a lesson manual for the students.
As such, the school added another learning facility which makes its
students competitive to other schools. This is very evident during the conduct of
yearly Speech Festival, an English activity conducted to help improve students’
reading skills. With this, Speech Lab become and will always will a very useful at
the same time enjoyable to students and teachers because it can enhance
speaking skills.

II- Orientation and Maintenance

Since it is a digital speech lab, English teachers must know how to
navigate/operate the computer. On June 21, 2010, the lab in-charge had oriented
the English teachers on how to use the equipments during their English time. The
English teachers agreed to make rules for the students to follow once they are
inside the lab. These are the rules:
1. Students are not allowed to use the lab unless accompanied by their
subject teacher.
2. Inform the in-charge before using the lab.
3. Students and teachers should log in their names, year & section and
signature in the log book.
4. Students are not allowed to bring foods/beverages inside the lab.
5. Bags should be placed in the baggage counter except cell phone and
money.
6. Avoid vandalism and destroying speech lab apparatus.
7. Maintain cleanliness inside and outside the lab.

III-Schedule
The table below is the schedule in using the lab. It will only be used
once a week and it should be integrated in English subject. However, vacant
period may be used for film viewing.

IV-Problems Encountered
Unfortunately, there are some circumstances that we can’t control in
our hands. SINHS Speech Lab is no longer functioning due to the damage caused
by rats last December 2010 during Christmas vacation. The in-charge
immediately called for a technician last January 2011 to see if it can be repaired.
ASPEN technician arrived only last March 1, 2011 at 5 PM. They inspected the
damaged parts. According to Mark Nieverra, some parts of the ATT Box specially
the motherboard and wirings were damaged. Rats were able to penetrate its urine
inside the box making it rusty which caused short circuit.

V-Recommendation
It was recommended that the following parts need to be purchased:

2 units Mother Board and 1 set IDE Cable

The in-charge received the call of quotation through email. Please see
attachment.
The school also had undergone Sterling Silver Peer Accreditation last
August 23, 2011. The school facilities were evaluated by the Cluster II Accreditors
headed by Mr. Teodoro Plaza. One of the weaknesses cited was the Speech Lab.
It was suggested that this should be repaired to become functional and that the
school can be accredited to level 1.
Since the school MOOE cannot suffice the amount indicated amount in
the quotation, the school is appealing to the Department of Education especially
to the province of Agusan del Sur to help support us for the repair of our Speech
Laboratory. It is in this way that our partnership in education is tested. It will be a
great help if this will be repaired.
