Written Report Outline

Historical Questions should be thought-provoking, answers a particular


conflict/controversy or describing a event.

Example:
“Did Emilio Aguinaldo ordered a sentence to death to the Bonifacio
Brothers?”

II. Source Presentation / Report Outline


 Use the OPVL technique provided below in developing your report outline. The
report outline should provide 4 bullets only with 8-15 sentences.
 In writing the Report, develop your presentation and discussion using the
format below:
O – ORIGIN
i. Who is the author/artist?
ii. What date it was written/finished?
iii. Where was the source was produced?
iv. Is the source a primary or secondary source?
v. What was the historic context in which the source was created?
P – PURPOSE
i. What do you think the author was trying to communicate to readers?
ii. What ideas/feelings was the author trying to express/evoke?
iii. What was the intent of the author?
iv. Who is the intended audience of this source?
v. Why did the author create this document? Why does it exist?
V – VALUE
i. What can one tell about the author/time period because of this
source?
ii. What was going on in history when this source was created?
iii. What new information does this piece bring to the understanding of
the topic?
L – LIMITATION
i. Has the source has been translated from the original?
ii. Does the author have reason to emphasize certain facts over other
facts? How might the source be different if it were presented to
another audience?
iii. How might the historical context in which the document was created
influence the interpretation of the document?
III. Discussion of the source
 Explain the importance of the source used to lead you in answering the
historical question
IV. Conclusion
 Answer the historical question.
 Summarize your report.

Times New Roman, 12, 1.5 spacing
*you will just replace and answer the given outline above

PowerPoint Guidelines:

A. PPT Technicalities:
1st Slide: Title of your Topic and Leader with Members list (include the Section and Subject)
2nd - 18th/28th slide: the core of your report (based on part II and III of your report outline)
19th/29th slide: Group conclusion to your report
20th/30th slide: References used (based on your part IV of your report outline)

B. PPT Content Control:

1. Each slides should be in bullet-form / 5-7 bullets. Hence, just get the essential and needed
concepts to highlight and the explain its details orally.
2. Use the standard fonts (Arial, Times New Roman, Century Gothic, Trebuchet, Verdana).
Avoid using fancy fonts since most of the time you will use the instructors' laptop or your
classmates' laptop as well.
3. Each bullet should be readable. You can use a bulleted paragraph to HIGHLIGHT
EXAMPLES / CASES / SCENARIOS.
4. Please use index card or a 1/4 sheet of paper if you want to have cues in your presentation
while discussing your report. Read your presentation IF NECESSARY. Kindly explain
your output and AVOID DEPENDING on your cue cards if possible
