OBJECTIVES:
The Learner should be able to:
1. follow steps in division of decimals with up to two (2) decimal places,
2. change the dividend and divisor from decimal to whole number and
3. divide decimals with up to 2 decimal places.

PURPOSE OF THE SIM:


To address the low level of competency/skill in dividing decimals up to
2 decimal places among the struggling pupils in Mathematics of 2nd Quarter
Grade V-Deimos of Magsaysay Elementary School SY. 2019-2020.

I. INTRODUCTION

Strategic Intervention Materials are conceptualized and designed to aid the


teacher and provide the pupils the needed support to make progress in studies.
These will increase and deepen the skills, knowledge and understanding of the child
in various subject areas not only in science and math but also including various
learning areas in the curriculum. SIM can give the opportunity to explore various
ideas and concepts that would enrich their understanding of varied subject matters
that sharpen their competencies. Furthermore, the strategic instructional
materials tend to reteach the lessons which are not so much clear to the learners
and to help them gain mastery of the skills.

Moreover, the strategic intervention materials guarantee alignment of


activities with the tasks/objectives, keep the activities short and simple, provide a
variety of activities to cater to the diverse learners; provide number of activities so
that the learner can have enough practice in developing the skill and focus on the
least mastered skills. In addition, the designs of the strategic intervention materials
are attractive and eye-catching that is why a lot of teachers are encouraged to use
them in the teaching-learning process. The benefit of the strategic intervention
materials is not only for the teacher’s convenience and system in teacher but also
for the easy grasp of the learners.

The results of Formative and Summative/Quarterly tests given to Grade five


pupils of Magsaysay Elementary School are clear pictures so as to the real
academic status of Mathematics in the school. It is extremely worthwhile for
teachers to think of some strategies in teaching Mathematics to be able for the
learners to learn to love and appreciate the subject. Teacher’s resourcefulness is
one of the factors in motivating learners to have positive attitude towards
Mathematics.

II. DOCUMENTATION:
I gave a formative test to the Grade-V Deimos on September 25, 2019.
A 7 item quiz about dividing decimals up to 2 decimal places. Below are the
actual test papers among the pupils who got 75% below passing rate.
Learner 1 got a score of 2 out of 7 which is 29%, Learner 2 got a score of 1 out
of 7 which is 14%, Learner 3 got a score of 1 out of 7 also which is 14% and
Learner 4 got a score of 3 out of 7 which is the highest among the four which

The next day on September 26, 2019, I administer to the four pupils the
SIM that I formulated to address their low performance and help them
understand more about dividing decimals up to two decimal places.

The next day, September 27, 2019 I gave them another set of formative
test consisting of 7 items about division of decimals up to two decimal places
to see if they improve and understand more about the lesson. Below are
there actual formative test and there scores. Learner 1 got a score of 6 out of
7 which is 86% , Learner 2 got a score of 4 out of 7 which is 57%, Learner 3 got
a score of 6 out of 7 which is 86% and Learner 4 got a score of perfect score
of 7 out of 7 which is 100%.

III. RESULTS AND FINDINGS:


The table below shows the base line scores in the formative test of the 4
learners without any interventions, there post-test scores after the intervention
and the increment on their scores between the two tests.

The score of four (4) Grade V pupils during the formative assessment
were 2, 1, 1, 3 which is 25% mastery level far from the target 75% while there
scores during the post-test had increased to almost 82% mastery level.

IV. CONCLUSION:
Based from the 57% increment on the scores of the four (4) Grade V
pupils between the pre-test and post-test, it can be concluded that the use
of this SIM (Divicimal) as an intervention material increased their learning and
understanding in dividing decimals up to two (2) decimal places.

V. RECOMMENDATION:
The SIM-Divicimal is therefore recommended to use as intervention
material for the Grade V pupils of Magsaysay Elementary School as well as to
other Grade V pupils of other school in understanding and mastering dividing
decimals up to two (2) decimal places.
It is further recommended that material may be adopted or enhanced
for future use of Grade V pupils of other schools.
