WOMEN OF MALOLOS (ANG KABABAIHAN NG MALOLOS)

REACTION PAPER

The film “Women Of Malolos/ Ang Kababaihan ng Malolos” was written by Nicanor G.
Tiongson, a film historian, leading critic, and also a creative writer who studied in University of
The Philippines and also a founding member of the Manunuri ng Pelikulang Pilipino. The Film
was directed by Sari and Kiri Dalena, supported by the Tantoco- Rustia Foundation and Women
of Malolos Foundation Inc. (WOMFI). With the unity of the people behind the production, they
were able to re- enact a historical event during the Spanish colonial regime and produced a
cinematic musical film.

Women Of Malolos is all about the brave group of women who were fighting for their
education because of being deprived of education itself, specifically into learning Spanish
language. Thus, caught the attention of Rizal, a well- known writer of “Noli Me Tangere” which
talks about corrupt priests that rules the government. The film also talks about the corrupt priests
who charges people excessive taxes and even making money out of corpses who died of cholera
which is a contagious disease. Going back to the movie plot, the group of women from different
families, specifically Tanchanco, Uitangcoy, Tantoco, Tiongson, and Reyes were doing everything
they can to learn and take back their rights to attain proper education. Knowing that these group
of women were opposing the authorities, neither of them fought back hence leading everyone to
success.

As a whole, I personally think that the film “Women Of Malolos”, is filled with life lessons
that we should apply. First thing is that we must not let ourselves be deprived of education, for it
plays a necessary role in our lives. As a student, I personally understand that education will give
us a brighter future so we should always fight for it. Second is that whatever gender we have, we
must not let the society dictate whatever we should do or whatever we are capable of doing, as
long as we knows that we are fighting for what is right and what should be. Lastly, we should
always keep in mind that whatever injustice that we are going through, nothing will prevail for as
long as we believe that very soon, it will all go away somehow considering that someone will
always fight for what is right and beneficial for everyone.
