Mission

families and faculty.

Values
High achievement: We believe in assisting each student to achieve her or his full musical potential.
This begins by developing individualized programs based on the students learning needs, abilities and
goals.

Instilling lifelong dance learning: Physical education should foster independent and creative dancers,
equipped for life long engagement with dance.

CONSTITUTION AND BY-LAWS

ARTICLE I: NAME & PURPOSE

Section A: Name

1. This organization shall be called the GSC Junior High School Dance Troupe.
In this document, references to this organization will be as SAMARITANO
CULTURAL SOCIETY.

Section B: Purpose

1. The Samaritano Cultural Society is organized and will be operated exclusively


for cultural and recreational purposes and, in furtherance thereof, specific
objectives are:

a. To assure the highest standard of music through offering innovative


individual and group activity

b. To provide high quality programming in a professional and healthy


environment that contributes to student success.

c. To value and celebrate the excellence and innovation achieved by the


students.

d. To sustain and enhance a supportive, caring and responsible community


among the students, families and faculty.

ARTICLE II: MEMBERSHIP

Section A: Eligibility - Members should be a student of the Good Samaritan


Colleges

ARTICLE III: OFFICERS

Section A: Officers – The officers shall be a President, Vice-President, Secretary,


Treasurer, Auditor, PIO, and Sgt. at Arms.

Section B: Eligibility – Officers must be a full-time students in the Good


Samaritan

Section C: Election – The officers shall be elected by nominating at the second


week of the meeting to give time to the members to get to know each other by a
majority of the vote cast for that office.

Section D: Term – The officers shall serve for one year and their term of office
shall begin at the moment they got elected.
Section E: Vacancy – If a vacancy occurs in the office of President, the Vice-
President shall assume the office for the remainder of the term and vacancies in any
other office shall be filled by a special election.

ARTICLE IV: DUTIES OF OFFICERS

Section A: President – it shall be the duty of the President to:

 Preside at meetings
 Vote only in case of a tie
 Represent the club
 Appoint committee chairpersons subject to the approval of the Executive
Committee
 Serve as an ex-officio member of all committees except the nominating
committee
 Perform such other duties as ordinarily pertain to this office

Section B: Vice-President – It shall be the duty of the Vice-President to:

 Preside in the absence of the President


 Serve as chairperson of the Program Committee

Section C: Secretary – It shall be the duty of the Secretary to:

 Record the minutes of all meetings


 Keep a file of the club’s records
 Maintain a current roster of membership
 Issue notices of meetings and conduct the general correspondence of the club

Section D: Treasurer – It shall be the duty of the Treasurer to:

 Receive all funds and process Request for Payment, Deposit Slip, and Officer
Signature Forms.
 Keep an itemized account of all receipts and expenditures and make reports as
directed
ARTICLE V: MEETINGS

Section A: Meetings – Regular meetings shall be held monthly during the regular
school year.

Section B: Special Meeting – Special meetings may be called by the President with
the approval of the Executive Committee.

Section C: Quorum – A quorum shall consist of all the officers of the membership.

Section D: Parliamentary Authority – Robert’s Rules of Orders, shall govern this


club in all cases to which they are applicable and in which they are not inconsistent
with these bylaws.

ARTICLE VI: EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE

Section A: Responsibility – Management of this club shall be vested in an


Executive Committee responsible to the entire membership to uphold these bylaws.

Section B: Membership – This committee shall consist of the officers as listed in


Article III and the faculty advisor.

Section C: Meetings – This committee shall meet at least once between regular
meetings of the club to organize and plan future activities.

ARTICLE VII: ADVISOR

Section A: Selection – there shall be a faculty/staff advisor who shall be selected


each year by the membership.

Section B: Duties – The responsibilities of the faculty advisor shall be to:

 Maintain an awareness of the activities and programs sponsored by the student


club.
 Meet on a regular basis with the leader of the student club to discuss upcoming
meetings, long range plans, goals, and problems of the club.
 Attend regular meetings, executive board meetings as often as schedule allows.
 Assist in the orientation of new officers.
 Explain and clarify campus policy and procedures that apply to the club.
 Maintain contact with the Student Life Office.
 Provide direction in the area of parliamentary procedure, meeting facilitation,
group-building, goal setting, and program planning.
 Assist the club treasurer in monitoring expenditures, fundraising activities, and
corporate sponsorship to maintain an accurate and up-to-date account ledger.
 Inform club members of those factors that constitute unacceptable behavior on
the part of the club members, and the possible consequence of said behaviors.
ARTICLE VIII: COMMITTEES

Section A: Program Committee – A program committee composed of the Vice-


President as chairperson and four other members shall be appointed by the
President before the end of spring semester, whose duty shall be to plan the overall
program of the club.

Section B: Special Committees – The President shall have the authority to


appoint any special committees, with the approval of the Executive Committee, from
time to time as need demands.

ARTICLE IX: AMENDMENTS

Section A: Selection – these bylaws may be amended by a two-thirds (2/3)


majority vote of the chapter membership.

Section B: Notice – All members shall receive advance notice of the proposed
amendment at least five days before the meeting. [The time may be extended to the
following meeting.]
THE CLUB ADVISER
Student organization advisors agree to:

1. Take an active role in advising the student organization.


2. Know the general purpose of the organization and be familiar with all provisions
outlined in the organization’s constitution and bylaws.
3. Know the officers of the organization and the current members of the organization.
4. Meet with the organization’s president on a regular basis (at least once per month).
5. Remain informed of all activities and conducted by the student organization and
attend events as feasible.
6. Establish with the student organization president the manner and frequency in
which the advisor will participate in the organization’s activities, e.g., programs, social
events, and meetings.
7. Be knowledgeable about and adhere to school policies and procedures which pertain
to student organization and inform the student organization president of his/her
responsibility to do the same.
8. Offer guidance to the organization on goal setting, organization management,
program planning, problem solving and group evaluation.
9. Know the organization’s process for obtaining new members.
10. Report to the Director of Student Activities any activities which may or will violate
school policies.

Requirements for Serving as an Advisor

1. An advisor should be a full-time employee of Good Samaritan Colleges. This staff


member serves as the primary advisor to the club. Exceptions can be made at the
discretion of the Director of Student Activities.
2. Advisors are required to attend the various social events of the student organizations
they advise, held during and after normal business hours.
3. Advisors should be knowledgeable in Room Reservation forms.
4. Advisors may assist at the door of an event, checking identification of students as
they enter and operation of the event.
5. In the case of an emergency at such an event, the advisor should exercise his/her
best judgment and work closely with the Public Safety
