CALOOCAN

 Some folks said that Caloocan got its name from a Tagalog word “lo-ok” (bay) because it is near
to Manila Bay. Others insist that it was named after another Tagalog “sulok” (corner) because
before, the place was located at the corner where the old towns of Tondo and Malabon met.
 therefore, the name of the place is a mixture of the word “kasuluk-sulokan” which means
“innermost area”.
 Caloocan is known as the Makasaysayang Lungsod (Historic City). Their claim of being a historic
city has a basis
 This was the place of the Katipuneros, a secret militant society formed during the Spanish
colonization in the country.

Bonifacio Monument- commonly known simply as Bonifacio Monument or Monumento, is a memorial


monument in Caloocan, Philippines which was designed by the National Artist Guillermo Tolentino to
commemorate Philippine revolutionary Andrés Bonifacio, the founder and Supremo of the Katipunan.

Caloocan Cathedral- Caloocan Cathedral, known canonically as San Roque Cathedral-Parish, is the
cathedral or seat of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Kalookan

Gubat sa Ciudad - The resort is ideal for retreats, campings, birthdays, and company outings. It also
provides seven swimming pools with matching water slides, hall pavilion, cottages, air-conditioned
rooms, basketball and volleyball courts, children’s playground, Jacuzzi, and tree houses.

MALABON CITY

 According to legend, Malabon got its name from the words “maraming labong” (plenty of
bamboo shoots). This was originally called as Tambobong and was founded by the Augustinian
friars as a “Visita” of Tondo on May 21, 1599.
 The place served as the literary center during the Spanish Colonization in 1896. In fact, “La
Independencia”, a revolutionary publication, was printed here
 Famous for its ancestral homes that could be compared to the old Spanish colonial mansions in
Vigan, the City of Malabon is one of the cities that make up the Metropolitan Manila. It is part of
the sub-region Metro Manila called CAMANAVA (Caloocan City, Malabon City, Navotas City and
Valenzuela City).
 Malabon as it is today is a thriving commercial and industrial urban city, rich in marine resources
and a productive fishing industry. It has contributed much to the economy of the region and has
also become a manufacturing base as well. It also has many worthwhile attractions one should
definitely visit to get a grasp of the historic yet progressive character of the city.

TOURIST ATTRACTIONS

1. Malabon zoo - This small, humble zoo features an array of caged animals, along with an
aquarium & gardens.

2. San Bartolome Church- SAN BARTOLOME PARISH, the oldest church in the Diocese of Kalookan,
was established by the Augustinian Missionaries in the year 1670.
A simple yet elegant retablo can be found in the chancel where the icon of Saint Bartholomew
the Apostle is surrounded by the image of the Blessed Virgin Mary above, the tabernacle below,
and St. Augustine and St. Nicholas de Tolentine on both sides.
3. Immaculada Concepcion De Malabon Church - It is a small Church, but interiors are well kept
and beautiful. The image of Immaculate Conception of this church is one of the few Marian
images in the Philippines that is canonically crowned. This church is always an option for
weddings because of it’s beautifully crafted design
4. The Sy Juco House/Mansion- If you love heritage houses, then this one is a must visit. The Sy
Juco House was built in 1869, used as a school, a tobacco factory, and a private home for a
Swiss-Filipino family.
5. malabon people's park - also known as Catmon People's Park, is an urban park situated in the
densely populated village of Catmon, in the northern Metro Manila city of Malabon, the
Philippines

Festivals

Luglugan Sa malabon - Luglugan Festival was recognized as the Best Tourism Event for food category of
the Association of Tourism Officers of the Philippines (ATOP). the highlight of the event is the giant
Pancit Bilao measuring 15 feet in diameter, divided into 4 triangular trays, with almost 90 kilos of
noodles. Four different Pancit-makers in Malabon were given each tray to fill in. The four triangles was
prepared by the famous of Pancit Malabon makers, namely, Nanay's ; Rosy's ; Zeny' ; Roy's.

Tabak Festival - is the newest addition in the growing list of festivals being celebrated in Malabon City, in
the tradition to honor San Bartolome.

Pagoda-Caracol - This celebration commemorates the Feast of Our Lady Immaculate Concepcion every
8th of December, an annual celebration of the Catholic and Aglipay churches. The fluvial procession
starts in Malabon to Navotas Rivers, coupled with colorful street dancing.

Heritage houses

Malabon houses several old homes of historical value: the Dionisio family home, the Rivera house, the
Villongco house, the Luna house, the Martinez house, the Chikiamco house, the Rojas-Borja house, the
(Teodoro) Luna house, the Santos-Lapus house, the Pantaleon Bautista house, the Syjuco (formerly
Gaza) house, and the Raymundo house, considered to be the oldest located along C. Arellano Street.
Other old but well-preserved heritage houses in Malabon include the Asilo de Huérfanos, the Paez
House, and the Nepomuceno House

PASIG

 Even before the Spaniards came, there was already class of people living in Pasig. They were
called Remontados who used to live in the mountains.
 Pasig was a part before of Rizal province and served as its capital. However in 1975, it was
carved out of Rizal and became part of Metro Manila when the Metro manila Commission was
created by President Ferdinand Marcos through Presidential Decree 824.

Pasig rainforest park is a public park in Pasig and a mini zoo

Pasig City Museum – a museum that shows the history, art, culture and tourism in the city.

Bitukang Manok – a serpentile like part of the Pasig River. Some of the history of the Philippine
Revolution happened here.
Bahay na Tisa – the oldest bahay na bato in existence in Pasig. Built by Don Cecilio Tech y Cabrera in the
early 1850s.

Bambino Festival- This festival is celebrated in honor of the Sto. Nino, whose innocence, purity of spirit,
and love have had a profound influence on the lives of Pasiguenos

Paskotitap festival- The first ever grand Christmas float parade, Paskotitap features a number of themed
floats, all marvelously designed and crafted by some of the country’s most acclaimed artists. Each float
is accompanied by a group of dancers in accoutrements consistent with the float’s theme. This event is a
definite treat to children and adults alike, who behold the entire spectacle through the dance
competition that features choreographed performances by the participating dance groups.

Itik itik festival- Held on the last Sunday of February that is the Feast of Barangay Kalawaan’s beloved
patroness, St. Martha, this event highlights the barangay’s yield, the Itik ( a species of duck), hence the
name of the festival

Pakalog Festival - On New Year’s Eve, residents of Barangay Santolan gather on Evengelista Street to
share a sumptuous New Year’s Eve feast, the centerpiece of which is the most revered of all Filipino
food, the lechon (roast suckling pig).

Pista ng Pasig- This is a church-sponsored celebration in honor of the Feast of the Immaculate
Conception on December 8.

QUEZON CITY

 Before Quezon City was created, it was composed of small individual towns. \
 QC is one of the cities that make up Metro Manila, the National Capital Region. The city was
named after Manuel L. Quezon, President of the Philippines, who founded the city and
developed it to replace Manila as the country's capital. Quezon City is not located in and should
not be confused with Quezon province, which was also named after the president.

Tourists Attraction
Ninoy Aquino Parks and Wildlife – this is an 80-hectare zoological and botanical garden housing
different species of trees and animals including snakes, deer, crocodiles, peacocks and a monkey-
eating eagle. There is also a park that maintains the rescued certain wildlife animals that have been
abandoned, confiscated or donated.

Pedrista festival - Celebrating the feast of San Pedro Bautista at Barangay Damayan (Frisco) Quezon
City. This year's celebration included the National Museum's declaration of the church convent as an
important cultural property.

Niyogyugan Festival - Niyogyugan is a provincial festival that combines all of Quezon's 39


municipalities and 2 cities into one. The name comes from niyog (coconut) and yugyog (to shake).

Makati

 Makati is the financial center of the Philippines where the Philippine Stock Exchange and the
Makati Business Club is situated.
 The city is a home for many Makati hotels, shopping centers, condominiums, financial and
entertainment hubs – most of them being owned, managed and frequently visited by the
successful foreign businessmen – which is the major factor that made this city very
prosperous.

Greenbelt park- The park is kept in perfect botanical and decorative conditions.

Belen in Makati – This is a celebration when all major buildings are decorated by lights and locally made
lanterns.

Flores de Mayo – This is considered to be the biggest procession in Metro Manila in which 120 young
ladies represents 32 barangays of the municipality, establishments, local and government offices and
corporations based in Makati City.

Likhang Kamay – This is an event where the artworks of various artists and craftsmen are being
displayed in an exhibit. In this event, many prospective buyers and investors are invited to promote the
city’s growing economy.

Mandaluyong

 Mandaluyong was first known as a barrio of Sta. Ana de Sapa which was part of the District of
Paco, Province of Tondo. It was then named as by the Spaniards as San Felipe Neri in honor of
the Patron Saint of Rome. Year 1841, it was separated from Sta. Ana de Sapa.
 Mandaluyong City is referred to as “Tiger City of the Philippines”, “Metro Manila’s Heart”, and
the “Shopping Mall Capital of the Philippines”. It is well developed that many of its
infrastructures are owned and managed by the most successful business men in the country.

Tourist Attraction

Trampoline Park – Zero Gravity Zone is one of the first trampoline playgrounds in the Philippines. With
one simple concept of bringing together people of all ages to get active and fit while having fun.
Dambana ng mga Alaala (Memorial Monument) – a monument for the people who struggled for liberty
and freedom during the revolution period.

Shangri-La Plaza Mall- is an upscale shopping mall situated in the Ortigas Center, a business/commercial
district of Mandaluyong City.

SM Megamall – is a large shopping mall located in the Ortigas Bisiness Centers of Metro Manila. It is one
of the largest SM Supermall developed and operated by SM Prime Holdings, the largest mall operator in
the Philippines owned by Henry Sy Sr.

Lavanderos Festival- the unique festival focused on the city's ancient tradition of washing clothes in the
once clean and clear waters of the Pasig River.

Pasay

 An explanation says that Pasay got its name from a princess named Dayang-dayang Pasay. She
was a princess of the Namayan Kingdom that existed around year 1175. She owned the lands
now comprising the territories of Culi-culi, Pasay and Baclaran.
 Pasay City was one of the original four cities of Metro Manila. Due to its proximity to Manila, it
quickly became an urban town during the American Period.

Tourist Attraction

Coconut Palace – is the official residence and workplace of the Vice President of the Philippines. It was
built in 1978 and was made from several types of Philippine hardwood, coconut shells ans specially
engineered coconut lumber apparently known as Imelda Madera.

Star City – a family-oriented amusement park with a total land area of 35,000 square meter. It has
various attractions such as Winter Funland, Dino Island which contains small museum with prehistoric
artifacts, Star Theater, miniature train rides, Snow World with freezing temperatures and slides,
statutes, castles and igloos carved from ice. Star City also has the Giant Wheel, the tallest Ferris wheel in
the Philippines with 32 air-conditioned gondolas able to carry six passengers.

Festivals

Talulot Festival is a feast to honor St. Therese of the Infant Child Jesus. Talulot will also include a
colorful parade featuring street dancers, bands, civic groups and military contingents. With the much-
anticipated annual street dancing competition.

Pasinaya Festival –is celebrated annually at the Cultural Center of the Philippines and is the largest arts
gathering in the country. Every year, thousands of visitors coming from all over the country join CCP as
they celebrate the Pasinaya, which aims to promote the importance of arts and culture in the country.

Taguig

 The City of Taguig (formerly spelled as Tagig; Filipino: Lungsod ng Taguig) is a highly urbanized
city located in south-eastern portion of Metro Manila in the Philippines. From a thriving fishing
community along the shores of Laguna de Bay, it is now an important residential, commercial
and industrial center. The recent construction of the C-5 highway and the acquisition of the Fort
Bonifacio development area has paved the way for the cityhood of the municipality.

Tourist Attractions

American Cemetery and Memorial – this cemetery which is dedicated to the American soldiers who
fought and died during the World War 2, was established in May 1947 at Fort Bonifacio. Due to its wide
variety of trees and shrubbery, this memorial ground is a favorite destination of tourists and war
veterans.

Archdiocese Shrine of St. Anne – one of the oldest churches in the Philippines built during the term of Fr.
Diego Alvarez.

Dambanang Kawayan – a century old church with altar, wall sidings and benches that are made from
pure and native bamboo.

Festival

Sta. Anang Banak Taguig River Festival- is held in Sta. Anna as a form of thanksgiving. Dozens of colorful
boats line up and are being loaded with figures of Sta. Ana and boxes of food: exotic fruits such as santol
and ponkan, chocolates, and other delicacies. The boat parade is led by the mayor of Taguig, sitting
under a pagoda on the first boat. Once floating down the river, the boat crews throw the food into the
huge cheering crowd that has gathered on bridges and at the riverside.

A single shuttle bus links NAIA Terminal 3 with the Pasay interchange connecting Manila's two main light
rail lines, the MRT and the LRT.

Take the LRT Yellow Line and alight at either 5th Avenue, or Monumento Stations. You can also take
EDSA-plying buses, some of which passes by the Monumento area. Caloocan City is now connected to
the EDSA MRT-3 line through an expansion project that will eventually connect MRT-3 with LRT Yellow
Line 1.

The city is also the easiest connection to cities such as Subic, Olongapo, and Baguio. Small but
convenient and very affordable tricycles ply around the city. Just say where you are going and they will
bring you as fast as possible. Jeepneys also play around with their own respective fixed routes.
