 Northern Mindanao is a
region of the Philippines,
composed of five
provinces classified as
highly-urbanized, all
occupying the north-
central part of Mindanao
island, and the island-
province of Camiguin.
The regional center is
Cagayan de Oro City.
Lanao del Norte was
transferred to Northern
Mindanao from Region
XII
 they still believe in the
existence of spirits and
gods. Furthermore, they
have a god for each
element.
 Another superstition is
they need to please the
spirits so they will
experience something
good in return.
 Spoken languages:
Bisaya and Cebuano are
the major ones.

Kaamulan Festival
 Second half of February
to March 10
 It is held to celebrate the
culture and tradition of
the seven ethnic tribal
groups—Bukidnon,
Higaonon, Talaandig,
Manobo, Matigsalug,
Tigwahanon and
Umayamnon—that
originally inhabit the
province.
“Island Born of Fire”
 The name Camiguin is
derived from the native
word “Kamagong”, a tree
of the Ebony family that
thrives near Lake Mainit
in the Province of
Surigao del Norte.
 Is the second smallest
island in the Philippines.
 The old native language
in Camiguin is called
“Kinamiguin”

Lanzones Festival
 A yearly occasion set
apart in the long stretch
of October, is a four-day
celebration
 Held to praise
abundance harvests of
the lanzones organic
product.
 It is also considered as a
thanksgiving festival to
celebrate their bountiful
harvest.
Hibok Hibok

 Celebrated every 24th of

June in the entire area of
Camiguin.
 The celebration is held

out of appreciation for St.
John the Baptist.
 The name Misamis is derived
from the word Misa
 Misamis was one of the six
districts of Mindanao, and
later, one of the seven districts
in Mindanao and Sulu at the
close of the Spanish era with
Cagayan de Misamis, (now
Cagayan de Oro), as its
capital. When it was still a part
of the district of Cebu, there
were twelve Spaniards and
nine Filipinos who
successively served as
“Governadore” with Mayor
Carabello as the first governor
in 1874.

Kuyamis Festival
 Every second week of
January sets the annual
celebration of the
Kuyamis Festival,
 It is an annual festivity of
thanksgiving, and

sweet coconuts as their
basic foodstuff.
