a. Introduction about student My name is Min Naing Soe and I am from Myanmar. I was born in 1990 at Mawlamyine, the capital city of Mon State. I started my primary school when I was five years old in my home town. It takes eleven years to finish high school. I sited for matriculation examination when I was sixteen. I passed the matriculation examination with three distinctions. Those are chemistry, physic, and biology. I started Engineering School at December, 2006 at Mawlamyine Technology University. I studied Civil Engineering for two years. Then, I quitted the university because of family financial problems. After I have left, I went to Singapore to work. I worked for Meisei Industrial International private Ltd. I worked in Singapore for two years. I returned to Myanmar in early 2011 to continue my education. I tried to carry on my engineering education; however I was restricted to continue according to University terms and condition. So, I chose to study physic at Mawlamyine University. As I had finished the 2 nd year of engineering, I was able to join directly to the 2 nd year of Physic. At the late 2011, I applied to Aiu before the final examination of my physic studies. I had passed the year 2 of Physic. Before I register for year 3, I was informed that I have been selected by Aiu. It was in January 2012. I arrived to Aiu on 3 rd of February, 2012. Aiu is my third university. When I arrived to Aiu, I have been 22 years old. But I realize the word never old to learn. b. Introduction of portfolio The purpose of the portfolio is to compile all works and experiences that I had done in my past. It is an essential way or method that I can collect my important experiences as my document for any purpose such as reminding, what are the activities which I had done before, reference and the need for academic performances. We are human and we couldnt remember everything. That is why we have to compile and collect the important experiences as a crucial document. Exactly, one day this portfolio will be an important thing for me when I want to dig my memory out what are the experiences and activities that I did before in the past. I myself consider the portfolio is used to collect, contain and compile any activities, experiences, reflection that I committed and will apply in the society for the future.
Objectives This portfolio is important for me for my academic performances as I am a student, I have to know how to compile and collect documents those are essential for me as a references to enrich my knowledge and what I had done in past. The objectives of my portfolio are as follow: To compile the experiences or activities that I have done as my own document for reminding. To evaluate my self-esteem on the works that I did To compare the activities or experiences that I have done To develop my learning style (learning by doing) To keep my record for the future To improve my positive mood on what I have done in the past To make a positive change for myself Entry One Description Learning by doing is an effective method that people can improve their ability when they do something. Community service is the out-door activity for Aiu students to involve with off-campus society. Co-curriculum and leadership help students to improve the role of leadership, group works, team works, and communication skill that students have to improve, and apply to their society or community and their future life. In foundation programs in AiU, Co-curriculum and Leadership is a course that every student needs to take. The program requires students to work as a group in order to train them how to work in group, and engage them to the society. I would like to describe the community service that I have done on 6 th April, 2013 at an old folk house at Sungei Pettani, Kedah, Malaysia. Firstly, FSP students were divided into groups and two students in each group were assigned to be leader and assistance leader. After that, we all did group discussion and organized what activities we are going to do. To organize the program effectively we need to think about the time allowed, the number of student involved, and location. We had to create a schedule that is appropriate to these three main points. We stared dividing our group members for different duties. There were many activities that we prepared for the program such as painting, cleaning, gardening and cooking. After we have scheduled, we submitted our letter of
proposal to student affair department. Then we started to prepare all the stuffs and equipment needed for activities. All the stuff and equipment for activities were supplied by university. We took a few days to prepare everything required. Then on weekend, we did a brief to make sure all the activities prepared correctly and all the members have understood on their duties and position. On 6 th April morning, all the stuffs, students, lecturers, and driver were ready to depart from AiU to old folk house. We spent 45mins to arrive there and we enjoyed the view along the roadside. Once we have arrived there, our project advisor briefed for a few minutes and introduce about us to the house. Then, one of the person in charge of the house gave a welcoming speech and explained about the house. After that, we all started to do our activities. A group of students do painting, and another group did cleaning in house, and another one group did gardening. The painting group painted the porch of the fence and the walls in the house. The cleaning group cleaned everything inside the house. They did sweeping, mopping and wiping the furniture. The gardening group cleared all the bushes and dug out all the grasses. They planted the trees and they did the good housekeeping at backyard. At the evening all of our activities had been done, and then we left the house.

Justification for the selection of this activity Why did I select this activity? Honestly, this activity is important for me as it gives me great sympathy. The community service is an essential activity that I have to compile in my portfolio because it includes a lot experiences and knowledge for me. It brought me leadership, team work, communication skill and friendship that I will never forget. It is a kind of activity that not only brings students benefits but also help students to involve in the society work and the real life. Changing starts from youths and youths are the back bone for the society and the whole country. This program shows students how to apply and involve in their community, how to help and change the community in effective way. It alerts people to start doing good for their community and for the next generation. It tells us to make a positive change and sustainable development for the society. It means that we are not looking at the present but we are preparing what is going to happen in the future. That is why; this activity was selected and kept as a document for my portfolio.
Connection with the objectives The connection of the first entry and my portfolio really related to each other. My portfolio is used to compile, collect, and compose as the achievement that I have any activities, works, and so on. The connection of the objectives to the entry helps me such as self-evaluation or self-esteem, comparing one activity to another activity, and developing my learning style. Evaluation on what I have done is very essential because I can understand about my activities whether what I did, how I did, and what the result I got. It also gives me the chance to compare the activities that I did in the past and the present. I can compare one activity to another activity in effective way because I already mentioned of what I have done before in this portfolio. The most importance of the portfolio is kept as an important document that help me whenever I need to remember, review and proof for my life on what are the activities that I did before. Lastly, this portfolio helps me to build up my learning style I knew what the learning styles that I used and what kind of learning style that I am good at and most use. So, from this portfolio I can understand myself well and easy to develop my learning styles as well. Reflection: After I had finishing the communication service, I have recognized that I got a lot of experiences and knowledge that I really appreciate and need to improve quality of my intellectuality. Exactly, I involved and engaged myself in the real community, real life and real
work. It was completely different from what I have learnt in class. The lesions that I have studied in class have to be included the real practices that can lead me to an effective learner and capable person that can do and solve any challenges or problems in face. Learning by doing is a new term and new method that teaches people to understand something quickly and effectively by engaging to the real works and practices. That is why; the community service gave cognition when I have done the real job. Then I learnt what I have done through my reflection. I do not learn from my experiences but I learn from the reflection of my experiences. I know to communicate with others, to work in group, to be a leader and so on. So, all these experiences and cognition are extremely important for me to apply in my real daily life, academic performances, society and my future life. Knowledge is considered as a bridge that can bring me to a successful goal. Before the activity, I felt disappointed as the community service coming again, and it is far a bit from our university. I asked myself that what to do with these old folks. They already have their sponsorships. Their sponsorship is taking care of them. But during the activity, I were having the great happiness with them. I felt sorry for what I had thought before. I realized that these old folks need the happiness. They are not interesting in anything. Their lives are so quiet. They dont want money. They just need the kindness from other for the rest of their life. After the activity, I had known the feeling of the old people and what they really need for the rest of their lives. I did have the great sympathy. And also, some questions came out in my mind after that activity those are Am I going to be long-life like them? If so, am I going to live in an old folk? Then, how would I feel if I am an old folk in this house? Learning style: For the learning style, I supposed that I had learned through auditory, visual, and kinaesthetic learning style. Then I realized that all these learning style suited me for this matter. Entry Two Blood Donation Giving blood is not a difficult process, but it is something that can save lives. Firstly I needed to do registration. I was asked some question and a small sample of my blood is tested. This is to check whether I am free from disease or I am safe to give blood, as well as to find the blood group. Then my blood pressure and pulses were checked. After that, a needle was inserted to my arm. It was not much hurt. The needle was connected to a bag which collects the
blood. About 500 ml of blood is withdrawn, and the process took around 10 minutes, I was given a small ball to squeeze while giving. It is to make donors feel relax. The event happened at the corridor of student affair department at Albukhary International University. It was on 7 th
Nov, 2012 and involved by the staffs of Aiu, students and staffs from hospital sultana bahiyah. Many of students and staffs did blood donation by then. It is for those who really need blood to servive. Justification of selecting this activity Blood donation is a lifesaving activity. It is for those who really needs the blood. I cannot assure that I will be always healthy and can donate the blood. One day, I may need the blood like the patients in hospital who needs the blood. I sympathized to those who are in trouble. I am proud of myself for saving lives. Thats why I contain this activity in my portfolio as a record. Connection with objectives . The connection of the objectives to the entry helps me such as self-evaluation or self-esteem, comparing one activity to another activity, and developing my learning style. Evaluation on what I have done is very essential because I can understand about my activities whether what I did, how I did, and what the result I got. It also gives me the chance to compare the activities that I did in the past and the present. It also shows my sympathy to patients in hospital. I suppose that this entry is really connected with the objectives. Reflection When I heard that the blood bank is coming to Aiu, I felt very eager to donate my bloods. I believed there many lives need the blood very importantly or urgently. So, I decided that I, a healthy person should save the lives in trouble. I am still healthy. I can donate my blood. Im not sure that I will be healthy forever. So I took this opportunity to save the lives. I sympathise those who need the blood compare to myself. I just imagined that if I really need the blood. After I have been checked up by doctor and I am safe to donate, I felt glad because I have got the opportunities to save the lives as much as I can. During my blood donation, I felt hurt a bit but I believed that what the people in hospital who really need the blood feel worse. After I have donated I felt proud of myself. I felt I have saved the lives. By then, I learned that there are many people who are in trouble. For the learning style, I learned through kinaesthetic learning style.
Conclusion All in all, I have recognized that the portfolio is really essential since it compile, contain and collect activities, information or experiences. In academic performances, I have to know clearly how to compile my experiences or learning outcomes. I do not know whether I need to review what had done before. This portfolio will help me to assume or evaluate on what are my strong points and weak points, positive strength and negative strength. It can help me to compare the activities that I have done. From the outcome of the activities, I can be able to do self-esteem and improve my abilities more effective and efficient. For instance, the both activities that I mentioned really reflect myself on what I have done. In the community service, I could find out some weak points I did such as time management, plan preparation, team work and so on. In the natural fact, we cannot escape the mistakes, but we just less them down and improve. Moreover, I can understand the group work such the members, program managers and so on. For instance, in the service program I understood that some members were active, but some were not. So, it is the view point that I recognized that the portfolio is crucial and essential for me to learn from the previous activities and the reflection of the activities as well. At last I really appreciate doing this portfolio because I can improve my vision and enhance my future life in accruable way. I can point myself to the accrete path and improve my capacity in effectively as well. At the end, I would like to encourage all the students should focus and learn what are the things they have done and compile their experiences or activities that they did before in order to reflect and remind them of what they did previously. Learning from our experiences through the reflection is the best way to improve our knowledge.
