The Termination and Abolish of UPSR and PMR Will Bring More Advantages or Disadvantages To The Students?
In Malaysia, there are public exam that student need to take like UPSR, PMR, SPM and so on. All of the public exam will determine the future of student whether they will be arranging in good, average or poor class. But, the fact that the termination and abolish of UPSR and PMR has lead to many positive and negative feedback either is from the government, private, parent, teacher and the others. Some say that is good to abolish the UPSR and PMR so that the new education system will help to boost and enhance the student result but there are people who disagree with this change and feel that the present examination system both in the primary six (UPSR) and the form 3 (PMR) level is a vital importance and these are an indicator to provide check and to determine the learning achievement of each and every student.
Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said the Ujian Penilaian Sekolah Rendah (UPSR) and Penilaian Menengah Rendah (PMR) examinations may be abolished. He said this was a part of government efforts to restructure the learning system that as seen as too examination oriented and failed to provide a holistic education. However, in my opinion, I strongly disagree that the UPSR and PMR should be abolish because the abrogate of PMR and UPSR will directly lead the student to have public exam like SPM and I do not think that student can adapt to the public exam since they do not have attend any public exam previously. They are just having their ordinary exam in school and cannot have the sensation of public exam. I do not deny that student that sit for SPM will ready physically and mentally but the major problem that I will like to express is it will be more better if they already have attend the public exam like UPSR and PMR and this will be a assist factor for they to do more well in SPM later. According to a media statement made by Dr. Hiew King Cheu, a Sabah politician viewed the proposal to abolish the UPSR and PMR examination in the education system to check the performance of the students as unnecessary. He also stated that the move will cause the standard of student to drop further from the present level. This proposal has to be stopped and we cannot afford to risk our education system to bring harm to our valued future generations. In fact more strict exams are to be implemented to ensure standards and quality students are produced.
Apart from that, student will no more taking serious when there are absence of public exam like UPSR and PMR. In order to provide a holistic education to the young generation, PMR and UPSR should be continuing. It is because the exam system also created competition and challenges among
students, which will enhance excellent result and grading for recognition. Until now our society still value and depending very much on the exam result and grade achievement made in the various government examinations in schools. We need to bear in mind that the public exam like UPSR and PMR will make student to do better and study hard in order to achieve a good grades in exam.
In addition, the history of PMR and UPSR has prove that most of the students can do well in their PMR and UPSR and the hard work that paid off after study hard to sit for the UPSR and PMR is really eye catching and we should not ignore that UPSR and PMR indeed is a good option to produce more and more knowledgeable and high order thinking skills students. Therefore, it is a strong reason that PMR and UPSR should stay instead of abolish it as it at least will bring more advantages than harm to the students or even the teacher. The teacher itself has already compromise with the education system now and they know very well the things that have to be done in order to help the students to achieve a greater result in the public exam.
To summing up, I absolutely agree that UPSR and PMR should not be abolish and to continue in our education system beside try to enhance it to become a more high class exam system. The education system that exists now should be maintained because it helped motivate the student to study hard. In addition, our society still value and depending very much on the exam result and grade achievement made in the various government examinations in schools. Last but not least, we should not act in haste and maintain the education system that exist now but if government really want change the education policy, there also nothing we can do and we just to have follow it and hope that it will really advantageous to all.
