- An 18-hole Hale Irwin signature golf course will be the centerpiece of the Mississippi Jewel project. Its planners believe it will significantly expand and complement Lake City. The Jewel will be an 832-acre development. (The Jewel Golf Club opened in 2005.)

- Marilyn Kruger of Rochester took senior champion titles in the halter class at the Steele County Fair. Kruger was riding her horse, Sky View Valley Rose.
- The Rochester Shrine Club motorcycle patrol took first place in the lightweight division of the motorcycle patrol competition at the Shrine convention in Sioux City, Iowa.
1949 – 75 years ago
- Two polio cases were discovered at Camp Warren, a YMCA camp south of Eveleth. The two individuals were taken to a Duluth hospital. In Southeast Minnesota, Freeborn and Fillmore counties are the hardest hit with polio. There are sixty cases in the two counties.
1924 – 100 years ago
- Police are seeking two men who cleaned up the Ah Sing Laundry on Fourth Street SW of $100 in cash and stole the most expensive linens and shirts. The police are confident they will button up the case soon.
- Rochester business owners traveled to Grand Meadow, where they enjoyed the annual business outing with the merchants of that city. The Rochester Park Band also made the trip and performed several selections for the picnickers.
- Yankee baseball star Babe Ruth leads the American League in batting with a .409 average.
