This was an absolutely fucking stupid idea: I’m going to try making 10 songs a day. Don’t do this—it’s a surefire way to get burnout—but I’m going to see if I can create 10 songs every day for the entirety of January. It seems pretty unlikely, I’ll give it a shot.

Feel free to use any of my songs for remixing, or as instrumentals for vocals. And other stuff; they are all royalty-free! You don’t have to give me credit, though I’d really appreciate it if you do! Also, please feel free to use any of my royalty-free songs for commercial purposes like in games. All the profits are yours—I don’t need anything in return. If you want to spend the money on something, consider donating it to Newgrounds!

I really like the ROLI Seaboard 2.

    I'm open to collaborating!

Honestly, I’m really happy to be here! I was scared to try this at first because I thought people might find me annoying or think I was trying to do too much.

If you can make 10 songs a day then I bet you’re more creative than I ever will be lol

Please don’t talk negatively about yourself. You’re creative, and you’re an amazing musician! It’s awesome that you create your music! Be proud of making the music you want!

I’ve struggled a lot with negativity myself. When I was making music, I would finish an entire song and then delete it. I did this over and over for four years. It took me a long time to break that habit.

The reason I adopted the philosophy of making multiple songs a day is because of an excerpt from Fear and Art that really resonated with me.

Art & Fear: The ceramics class and quantity before quality

The ceramics teacher announced on opening day that he was dividing the class into two groups. All those on the left side of the studio, he said, would be graded solely on the quantity of work they produced, all those on the right solely on its quality.

His procedure was simple: on the final day of class he would bring in his bathroom scales and weigh the work of the “quantity” group: fifty pound of pots rated an “A”, forty pounds a “B”, and so on. Those being graded on “quality”, however, needed to produce only one pot – albeit a perfect one – to get an “A”.

Well, came grading time and a curious fact emerged: the works of highest quality were all produced by the group being graded for quantity. It seems that while the “quantity” group was busily churning out piles of work – and learning from their mistakes – the “quality” group had sat theorizing about perfection, and in the end had little more to show for their efforts than grandiose theories and a pile of dead clay.

It’s about developing the habit of finishing songs and figuring out ways to improve your process for creating them. By practicing methods and techniques, you’ll gradually be able to make higher and higher quality songs. That’s my hypothesis.

Really, the reason I’m doing this challenge was because of the lack of ideas. I should’ve worded myself better; I struggle with that both irl and online. Ideas don’t come to me a lot and when I do have one, I start implementing it and then I stop some time later. I either end up finishing it months later or never finishing it at all. I can maybe try and fix that with this challenge. Just sitting down and taking a bit to push myself to finish a song a day at a time is gonna be a struggle, but if I can do at least 10 to 15 days making a song, I will be satisfied.
