Stein, Esq. has been engaged in the practice of law for more than 30 years, with a focus on medical malpractice litigation, hospital claims management and judicial mediation. During her years of practice, Ms. Stein has handled all aspects of medical malpractice litigation, from receipt of summons and complaint through trial and has successfully negotiated and settled hundreds of cases. She has participated in numerous pre-litigation investigations at the request of client hospitals, and has had extensive involvement in analysis of liability, exposure and settlement negotiations.
As a Law Clerk for the Honorable Douglas E. McKeon, Ms. Stein served as a Medical Malpractice Mediator for the New York State Supreme Court, Bronx County. Prior to her time at the Supreme Court, she spent nearly 10 years in claims management, first as a Claims Attorney at FOJP Service Corporation and then as Senior Corporate Claims Counsel for New York City Health and Hospitals (HHC), the largest public health care system in the United States.
During her tenure at HHC, she was responsible for the day-to-day supervision of the organization’s entire corporate medical malpractice portfolio. In this role, she effectively developed and implemented the creation of HHC’s in-house Medical Litigation Unit. Ms. Stein also directed management of all HHC’s medical malpractice litigation, including the evaluation of reserves, supervision of claims management staff and interaction with both plaintiffs and defense counsel during her extensive participation in court-supervised settlement conferences.
Ms. Stein’s years of practice have given her a deep understanding of medical malpractice case evaluation, which has earned her the respect and confidence of both the plaintiff and defense bars. She is an avid supporter of Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) and can draw upon her many years of experience when mediating and arbitrating in the private ADR forum. Ms. Stein has garnered a reputation for her fair valuation of medical malpractice matters and is dedicated in her effort to assist parties in moving cases toward resolution to the benefit of everyone involved. She is also a frequent lecturer and panelist on the subject of court facilitated medical malpractice settlements.
Ms. Stein is available to mediate and arbitrate medical malpractice matters in the New York Metropolitan area and throughout the United States.
