... Read More >Alan R. Sacks, Esq. is a seasoned litigator, arbitrator and mediator in both state and federal causes. He has focused his legal practice primarily on commercial/maritime litigation matters which include marine and insurance liability and coverage disputes, marine and land-based construction defect claims, contractor liens, recoveries and subrogation, insurance coverage litigation, all maritime and non-marine personal injury matters, U.S. Longshore and Harbor insurance coverage (USL&H), Jones Act, charter parties and vessel mechanical failures.
Prior to joining NAM, Mr. Sacks began his career in insurance defense, coverage analysis and litigation in Louisiana. He assumed the role of General Counsel for a New Orleans based insurance consulting firm, assisting clients with coverage specifications, captive formation, and claims and loss mitigation. He was also instrumental in passing the Louisiana Oilfield Anti-Indemnity Act and for many years represented the London market in commercial general liability (CGL), marine and contractual liability claims, largely in context of the “oil patch”; Brown and Blue-water Marine.
As both a litigator and a mediator, Mr. Sacks also has a wealth of experience handling cases that include construction, EB-5 immigrant investment ventures, first and third-party casualty claims including pollution liabilities, insurance, mergers, risk management, tort and product liability and securities/financial matters. Additionally, Mr. Sacks has formed numerous captive insurers and negotiated hundreds of reinsurance contracts.
In 2005, Mr. Sacks relocated his primary residence to New York and now has offices in New York City, Long Island and Louisiana. He has been admitted to, and practiced successfully in, the United States Supreme Court on certiorari and is admitted in the State and Federal Courts of New York, Louisiana, Texas and Oklahoma. As a New York County Supreme Court mediator and FINRA arbitrator, he has participated in numerous arbitrations across a variety of practice areas.
Mr. Sacks holds an AV-rating and is available to arbitrate and mediate cases throughout the New York, New Orleans and Dallas Metro areas.
