NABCEP’s Code of Ethics and Standards of Conduct
As a professional in the fields of renewable and sustainable energy and energy efficiency technologies, a NABCEP Board Certified Professional, Associate credential-holder or Candidate has the obligation to:
- Deal with all clients, consumers, and other professionals and professional organizations fairly and in a timely manner;
- Provide safe and quality services to clients and consumers;
- Respect and promote the rights of clients and consumers by offering only professional services that they are qualified to perform, and by adequately informing clients and consumers about nature of proposed services, including any relevant concerns or risks;
- Maintain the confidentiality and privacy of all client and consumer information;
- Avoid conduct which may cause a conflict with client or others;
- Engage in moral and ethical business practices, including accurate and truthful representations concerning professional information and system performance expectations;
- Be truthful with regard to research sources, findings, and related professional activities;
- Maintain accurate and complete business and professional records;
- Respect the intellectual property and contributions of others;
- Further the professionalism of renewable energy industry services; and,
- Behave in a courteous and professional manner when communicating with NABCEP representatives.
In addition to adhering to the NABCEP Code of Ethics and Standards of Conduct, NABCEP Board Certified Professionals, Associate credential-holders and Candidates acknowledge and accept the following:
- The Certification Monitoring Policy
- Responsibility to keep their NABCEP Profile information, including current contact information, updated in the myNABCEP Portal at all times.
- The NABCEP Credential does not imply licensure or registration.
- Protect the contents of all NABCEP examinations and related test materials by promising to hold them in strict confidence. The entire ownership interest in this information and materials is held by NABCEP and controlled by the NABCEP Board of Directors. They agree not to discuss, share, distribute, reproduce in any manner, or otherwise disclose the specific content of NABCEP test questions, answers, and examination related information and materials to any individual or organization.
- Release, discharge, and indemnify NABCEP, its directors, officers, examiners, employees, attorneys, representatives, and agents from all liability and claims that may arise out of, or be related to, my professional practice and related activities.
How to File a Complaint
If you have an ethics complaint against a NABCEP Board Certified Professional or a NABCEP Associate, please review the Code of Ethics & Standard of Conduct and the NABCEP Ethics Case Procedure. If you have an operational or policy complaint, objection, dispute, grievance, disagreement or similar matter, please view the NABCEP Grievance Policy. This policy will apply to any grievance matter concerning an action, policy or practice of NABCEP as a corporate body; the NABCEP Board of Directors and Officers; NABCEP executive management and staff; NABCEP Committee members; and NABCEP volunteers and representatives acting on behalf of NABCEP.
Other Options
Homeowners and other Customers who feel that they have been treated unfairly within the context of a renewable energy system installation may consider contacting the manufacturer who warrantied the equipment, and/or their local or State Attorney General’s Office, filing a complaint with U.S. Better Business Bureau, and their local Solar Energy Industries Association (SEIA) chapter.
