Fedoraを8⇒10⇒12にアップグレードしたメモ (Amazon EC2公式AMIのアップデート)

Fedoraをアップグレードアップデートしたログを残しておきます。
Amazon EC2で、AWS公式で提供されているAMIのLinuxディストリビューション・バージョンは"Fedora 8"となっており、今となっては古いものなので、順次アップデートして使いたい、というのが背景。
直接、Fedora 8からFedora12にするには、rpmlibまわりを中心にいくつかパッケージを用意しなければいけないようなので、一旦Fedora 10を介してFedora 12へのアップグレードを行いました。

(追記: 注意)

Fedora 10 ⇒ 12のアップデート後、その環境をベースとして作成したAMIからは、起動できないケースがあります。その場合は、いったんFedora 11にアップデートし、様子をみてください。

Fedora 8 ⇒ Fedora 10へのアップグレード

まず、バージョンの確認。

# cat /etc/fedora-release
Fedora release 8 (Werewolf)

yumリポジトリのキャッシュをクリアします。

# yum clean all

fedora-releaseをアップデートして、Fedora 10用の情報を取得。
Fedora 10用のリポジトリは、既に公開されていない場所が多いですが、rpmfind.netなんかで検索すると出てきます。

# rpm -Uvh ftp://fr.rpmfind.net/linux/fedora/releases/10/Everything/x86_64/os/Packages/fedora-release-10-1.noarch.rpm
# rpm -Uvh ftp://fr.rpmfind.net/linux/fedora/releases/10/Everything/x86_64/os/Packages/fedora-release-notes-10.0.0-1.noarch.rpm

で、アップデートの実施。少し時間はかかりますが、何もエラー等が出なければ成功です。

# yum update

最後にアップデート後のバージョンを確認。

# cat /etc/fedora-release
Fedora release 10 (Cambridge)

Fedora 10 ⇒ Fedora 12へのアップグレード

先ほどの手順と同じ要領ですが、、、まず、バージョンの確認。

# cat /etc/fedora-release
Fedora release 10 (Cambridge)

yumリポジトリのキャッシュをクリアします。

# yum clean all

fedora-releaseをアップデートして、Fedora 12用の情報を取得。

# rpm -Uvh http://download.fedora.redhat.com/pub/fedora/linux/releases/12/Fedora/x86_64/os/Packages/fedora-release-12-1.noarch.rpm
# rpm -Uvh http://download.fedora.redhat.com/pub/fedora/linux/releases/12/Fedora/x86_64/os/Packages/fedora-release-notes-12.0.0-4.fc12.noarch.rpm

で、アップデートの実施。

# yum update

すると、トランザクションテストの部分で、以下のようなエラーが発生。

Transaction Check Error:
  file /etc/gpm-root.conf from install of gpm-1.20.6-9.fc12.x86_64 conflicts with file from package gpm-1.20.5-2.fc10.i386
  file /etc/gpm-syn.conf from install of gpm-1.20.6-9.fc12.x86_64 conflicts with file from package gpm-1.20.5-2.fc10.i386
  file /etc/gpm-twiddler.conf from install of gpm-1.20.6-9.fc12.x86_64 conflicts with file from package gpm-1.20.5-2.fc10.i386

・・・・・省略・・・・・

gpmパッケージの部分でコンフリクトしているということなので、一旦gpmパッケージを削除。(あとで入れ直す)

# yum erase gpm

で、再度アップデートの実施。

# yum update

すると、トランザクションテストの部分で、再び以下のようなエラーが発生。

Transaction Check Error:
  file /usr/share/locale/de/LC_MESSAGES/cryptsetup.mo from install of cryptsetup-luks-1.1.0-0.4.fc12.x86_64 conflicts with file from package cryptsetup-luks-1.0.6-6.fc10.i386
  file /usr/share/locale/sv/LC_MESSAGES/cryptsetup.mo from install of cryptsetup-luks-1.1.0-0.4.fc12.x86_64 conflicts with file from package cryptsetup-luks-1.0.6-6.fc10.i386
  file /usr/share/man/man8/cryptsetup.8.gz from install of cryptsetup-luks-1.1.0-0.4.fc12.x86_64 conflicts with file from package cryptsetup-luks-1.0.6-6.fc10.i386

・・・・・省略・・・・・

さっきと同様、一旦該当パッケージを削除する。(あとで入れ直す)

# yum erase cryptsetup-luks

で、再々度アップデートを実施、、、すると無事完了した。

# yum update

最後に、途中で一旦削除したパッケージをインストールしなおす。

# yum install gpm cryptsetup-luks

上手く完了したかと思いきや、"yum update"の実行で、以下のようなエラーが発生していた。

# yum update
Loaded plugins: dellsysidplugin2, fastestmirror

ERR_OUT: : Bad address

ERR_OUT: : Bad address
ERR_OUT: : Bad address

検索してみると、以下の"smbios-utils-python"パッケージが該当している。

# yum whatprovides */dellsysidplugin2.conf

"smbios-utils-python"パッケージの詳細を確認してみると、今回の環境には不必要そうなので、、、

# yum info smbios-utils-python

パッケージを削除。以降は、"yum update"を実施しても、エラーが出なくなりました。

# yum erase smbios-utils-python

最後にアップデート後のバージョンを確認して完了。無事Fedora 12へとアップグレードできました。

# cat /etc/fedora-release
Fedora release 12 (Constantine)
