      • Benefits of Play

Play equips students with important social and emotional skills and an increased self-confidence. The one-on-one attention G2 volunteers provide make kids feel valued and in-control. Through the play worlds they build, children learn how to be architects of their environments. Through the attention of G2’s volunteers, they’re reminded that they’re important and loved, and that their voice and perspectives are valued.

The Strong believes that play is an essential part of learning, development, and human relationships. It’s how people make sense of the world. Through play, children and adults build relationship skills, self-confidence, and a greater understanding of their own interests and abilities.

There is a large body of research showing the ways play contributes to a person’s self-esteem, healthy relationships, and overall well-being. For more information on the many benefits of play, check out The Strong’s American Journal of Play.

“Playing a game together actually builds up bonds and trust and cooperation. We actually build stronger social relationships as a result.”
