Mohamed Salah is not currently an active target for clubs in the Saudi Pro League despite his situation at Liverpool, it has been claimed.

The Egypt international, who is inside the final year of his contract at Anfield, has previously been linked with a lucrative move to Saudi Arabia. And speculation over his future has only intensified after he revealed he was "more out than in" when it comes to Liverpool, who are yet to offer him a new deal.

Salah, 32, is free to sign a pre-contract agreement with overseas clubs from January. But while the Saudi Pro League has long been touted as a potential destination, that may no longer be the case.

According to Sky Sports, Saudi clubs are not actively trying to sign Salah as things stand, although many would be keen on doing so at some point in the future.

While links to Saudi Arabia have been consistent over the past 18 months or so, Salah's stance on such a move is unclear. Al-Ittihad saw a mammoth £150million bid for his services rejected by Liverpool last September and have not returned since.

Salah caused a stir on Monday when comments he made after Sunday's dramatic 3-2 win over Southampton: a match he scored twice in to send Arne Slot's side eight points clear of Manchester City at the Premier League summit.

He admitted that he was 'disappointed' to have not been offered a new deal by Liverpool - but his decision to go public has led to criticism from Kop icon Jamie Carragher.

Speaking on Sky Sports on Monday night, Carragher said: “Of course there’s been discussions, yeah. Right now, there’s obviously a big difference in the valuation. Whatever Mo Salah and his agent value themselves at, whether that be financially or in terms of length of contract, and what Liverpool do.

“So the reason Liverpool wouldn’t have offered a contract yet is because Mo Salah will turn it down. So they're still in talks, I’m desperate for them to meet in the middle.

“But I must say, I am very disappointed with Mo Salah. That interview last night after the game when it comes out. Liverpool have got Real Madrid midweek and they’ve got Manchester City at the weekend. That’s the story for Liverpool right now.”

He continued: “The most important thing for Liverpool Football Club this season is not the future of Mo Salah, not the future of Virgil van Dijk and not the future of Trent Alexander-Arnold. The most important thing is Liverpool winning the Premier League, that is more important than any of those players.

“And if he continues to put comments out and his agent keeps putting cryptic tweets out, that’s selfish. That’s thinking about themselves and not the football club.”
