Milwaukee PBS tours are interesting, informative, free and open to the public. Groups such as scouts, media classes, retirement organizations, schools, and people with special needs visit Milwaukee PBS annually.
Tours are conducted as a free community service of Milwaukee PBS, on weekdays only. Start times range from 10:30am to 3:30pm. Tours last approximately 60 minutes. Reservations are required two weeks in advance. Participants must be in kindergarten or older.
Participants are encouraged to watch locally produced programs, such as 10thirtysix, Adelante, and Black Nouveau to see what the sets look like, and to prepare questions prior to their tour.
Tour guides are staff members who present Milwaukee PBS studios, control rooms, and the prop room. Guides may also explain the management, operations, training, and fundraising aspects of the station.
Groups of 5 to 30 people can be accommodated comfortably at one time. Larger groups may be split. Groups often send a portion of their group to nearby restaurants, or the Milwaukee Public Museum or the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. Groups of 4 or fewer may join tours already scheduled, or invite others, to get up to the five-person minimum.
Street parking is limited. Parking lots are located on the west side of the street on 8th Street for a fee. There is no bus parking available. A handicapped access door is available on the corner of 8th and Highland. The stations are located in the C Building on the MATC Campus in downtown Milwaukee, at 1036 N. 8th St. The elevator is just past the vending machines on the right. Pushing the "TV" button in the elevator brings visitors to the reception area on the 4th floor. On return, selecting the second floor button brings visitors back to ground level.
Please call the Community Engagement office at 414-271-1036.
Cancellations are appreciated by 5 pm the prior workday.
Milwaukee PBS has compiled a listing of staff members who are available to speak to organizations on many media-related topics.
