Two men traveled by car with just under $6,000 cash, but neither would say who it belonged to during a traffic stop Monday.
Keshawn Jordan Morales, 21, of 2405 Lamar in Victoria, and Oscar Tellez Resendez, 22, of 2945 W. Harrison in Port OâConner, were arrested Dec. 23 just after noon following a traffic stop on northbound U.S. 59.
After pulling the vehicle over for failure to signal, a Wharton County Precinct 2 deputy could smell marijuana, which was found in the vehicle along with the cash on the console and a pistol in the car door.
Neither man would claim ownership of the cash.
Both men were arrested and charged with money laundering, unlawful carrying of a weapon and possession of marijuana less than two ounces.
Morales was released on a $13,000 bond the following day while Resendez was released to the Immigration and Naturalization Service.
