FrustratingMarissaI usually find IKEA products to be affordable and reliable, but this shelf was a huge disappointment. First of all, the pieces do not fit together - we had to manually trim every single shelf bar with a wire cutter. If we didn't have a wire cutter, I'd have to drive 3 hours back to the nearest IKEA to return it. Both options were a massive waste of time. Secondly, this is advertised as sturdy metal, but it is the flimsiest shelf I've ever bought. The entire thing wobbles, the shelves are dented upon arrival, they don't lie flat, and it scratches easily. I fear it won't hold the weight that it promises or it might just fall over. Hugely overpriced for the lack of the quality and I am beyond frustrated that I wasted my time and money on it.1
Descent shelvingBrandonI almost didn't buy this based on other reviews, but I am happy I did.
Not sure why there are so many complaints. It was easy to set up by myself and I see no issues with it. Use a rubber mallet opposed to a metal hammer and add the cross beams from the top down like the instructions say.
I will say it's not as sturdy as you might expect for a "heavy duty" shelving unit, but it does come with hardware to secure it to the wall.
I have the unit set up indoors for all my outdoor gear and totes, and it is perfect for this.4
Fundamentally FlawedPaulWhile I had no problems with the delivery of the item, or the instructions provided, this product is a nightmare to put together. Similar to other reviews, the supports holding the shelving together has zero tolerances - as you assemble, you will find that hammering supports into place will generate many metal shavings, along with frustration and foul moods.
It doesn’t actually seem like this product is fundamentally sound in the first place - there is no clearance or wiggle room where the supports meet, which I suspect is causing this issue with fit. My partner and I had to adjust each and every support bar with pliers to have everything sit together. Even still, after all this finicky work, the shelves do not sit properly in the frame.
I love IKEA products normally, but this unit is a huge miss. I hope it goes back to the drawing board for some deeply needed revisions.1
Do not buy it. It's cheap, flimsy and poorly designedGarrettThis is the worst thing I have ever purchased from Ikea. The material is cheap and flimsy. The instructions are unclear. You need a mallet to install the side bars, and in most cases the holes aren't cut right which causes the metal to tear as you hammer. I couldn't even build this before half the bars were bent, torn, broken and useless. Completely unacceptable quality1
Don't waste your timeDavidThese are the cheapest feeling, and worst designed IKEA product I've ever had the displeasure of assembling.
---
During assembly tolerances will stack, if you don't get the first piece perfect, the rest of the shelf will be out of square and almost impossible to put together.
---
You are supposed to put the shelves together with a hammer, but the metal is too soft to take these impacts and bends during assembly. A 2x4 with a groove cut in it helped a bit compared to the included plastic piece, but ALL of my shelves have dents and dings.
---
One of my shelves has a center support that was cut incorrectly and would not lock in place. It seems to be cut off-square and off-center.
---
They rattle, a lot. Stick some foam tape and the included packing material to the bottom of the shelf to make them less hollow sounding.
---
They could have used the same assembly methodology as the workbench and these issues would be mostly resolved. Wait for a v2, or buy something else.2
