Architectural Collaborative
We designed this 3,162 square foot home for empty-nesters who love lake life. Functionally, the home accommodates multiple generations. Elderly in-laws stay for prolonged periods, and the homeowners are thinking ahead to their own aging in place. This required two master suites on the first floor. Accommodations were made for visiting children upstairs. Aside from the functional needs of the occupants, our clients desired a home which maximizes indoor connection to the lake, provides covered outdoor living, and is conducive to entertaining. Our concept celebrates the natural surroundings through materials, views, daylighting, and building massing.
We placed all main public living areas along the rear of the house to capitalize on the lake views while efficiently stacking the bedrooms and bathrooms in a two-story side wing. Secondary support spaces are integrated across the front of the house with the dramatic foyer. The front elevation, with painted green and natural wood siding and soffits, blends harmoniously with wooded surroundings. The lines and contrasting colors of the light granite wall and silver roofline draws attention toward the entry and through the house to the real focus: the water. The one-story roof over the garage and support spaces takes flight at the entry, wraps the two-story wing, turns, and soars again toward the lake as it approaches the rear patio. The granite wall extending from the entry through the interior living space is mirrored along the opposite end of the rear covered patio. These granite bookends direct focus to the lake.
M&M Landscape Design
A quintessential family garden that combines areas of play with a sense of european formality deserved of an Arts & Crafts house in Remuera. The structure of the garden has been dramatically changed over the last year to provide the maximum of the space available, as well as create much needed indoor outdoor flow. It now provides a spa and pool, entertaining areas and split level lawns for the hotly contested games of cricket and flamboyant cartwheeling.
Strong structural planting was added to create privacy and formality, and frothy perennials give a sense of playfulness, colour and seasonal interest.

TCP Custom Outdoor Living
Contemporary Style -
This design included a structure that tied into the home and included a false open gable to highlight over the fire feature. Texas Custom Patios vaulted the ceilings and used a prefinished wood material to give it a natural wood look. We opened the flow through the living room to the outdoor living area by removing the traditional door and windows and replacing them with modern 2 panel and 3 panel sliding doors. In order to change the entire feel of the area, we lime washed the brick a gray color to remove the previous orange brick. We created a two-tiered, double-sided modern fire feature that had a unique encaustic style tile pattern on the bottom tier and stacked stone on the top tier. We built a small kitchen area that featured a grill, side burner, and fridge that was finished with a stacked stone and an exotic gray granite. Shea Seastrunk - Click Photography

LandArt
This project was completed in conjunction with the construction of the home. The home’s architect was looking for someone who could design and build a new driveway, front entrance, walkways, patio, fencing, and plantings.
The gardens were designed for the homeowner who had a real appreciation for gardening and was looking for variety and colour. The plants are all perennials that are relatively low maintenance while offering a wide variety of colours, heights, shapes and textures. For the hardscape, we used a Mondrian slab interlock for the main features and added a natural stone border for architectural detail.
