Put Your Furniture's Best Foot Forward
Hoof it up the high-design way with animal-shape feet that add eye-catching decorative flair to stools, benches, tables and chairs
You're probably familiar with ornately carved claw-foot furniture, but have you noticed any furniture with unique feet, paws or hooves? Made popular by designer John Dickinson back in the 1970s, these arresting table, bench and chair legs draw the eye to the floor, where a whimsical surprise awaits. Take a seat on this furniture safari and see if your space could use the legs of a gazelle.
One of the most famous tables with notable feet is the African Table by John Dickinson. While the original plaster tables can run about $16,000 at auction, Sutherland has recently gained the rights and the molds for rereleasing these designs in reinforced concrete with glass fibers at more affordable prices.
A Dickinson African Table holds its own within a large open floor plan.
The Footed Table is another John Dickinson classic that has been rereleased by Sutherland.
When added to an all-white chair, animal legs and paws add personality to a room while keeping the look refined.
