Fall DIY: Easy Harvest Party Centerpiece
Arrange heirloom pumpkins and votives in 3 simple steps to create a stylish centerpiece for your next outdoor gathering
Mild fall nights can be a great time to entertain friends and family outdoors. Follow along with these simple steps to make an eye-catching centerpiece to dress up the table at your next backyard harvest party or fall barbecue.
Materials
- 4 large heirloom pumpkins in assorted colors
- 5 small white pumpkins
- Large bunch of seeded eucalyptus
- 10 to 12 gold votive candleholders, plus candles
- Neutral plaid table runner
1. Lay your runner out on the table and arrange the larger pumpkins on top of it, concentrating them toward the center of the table so you’ll have space for plates and food later on.
2. Place the smaller white pumpkins among the larger ones, spreading them out evenly. Tuck individual stems of the seeded eucalyptus in between the pumpkins. Try to fill in all of the empty space so that the centerpiece looks full and substantial.
3. Disperse the votives throughout the centerpiece, taking care not to position any underneath the leaves (we don’t want to cause any fires!). Light the candles just before dusk to create an inviting ambiance for your get-together. I used citronella candles to discourage mosquitoes from joining the party.

The centerpiece creates a beautiful effect from afar, thanks to the height of the larger pumpkins and the warm glow of the candles.
Up close, the seeded eucalyptus takes center stage, thanks to its texture.
The muted color scheme is a nice departure from the traditional orange-based palettes of fall, and those gorgeous heirloom pumpkins can also be a conversation starter.
