Bedding Trends: Tailored and Tucked In
So long, fluffy duvet â tailored prints and texture wrap the mattress now
I recently read about the demise of the duvet and overly dressed beds on the blog, Good Life Of Design. I hadn't given this topic a lot of thought before, so I turned to Houzz to get a better sense of what direction homeowners and designers are currently taking with bedding. It didn't take long to see that a more tailored approach to making the bed appears to be a trend. What do you think? Do you like this look or are you a firm believer that more is more when it comes to bedding?
One of the most consistent approaches of this trend is to tuck bedding around the mattress into the bedframe. It makes sense, when dressing a platform bed the bedding can appear poorly designed if it doesnât line up properly with the lines of the frame.
Selecting a coverlet with texture helps this tailored approach remain interesting. A patterned throw layered along the foot of the bed breaks up the mass of white while adding warm color.
White bedding is made interesting by wrapping the mattress with a length of Suzani fabric. A throw and pillows echoing the deep gray color on an accent wall complete the look.
Beautify your bed with a new throw blanket
Tip: This look can be easily duplicated by turning a favorite fabric into a long panel to layer over solid bedding.

While many of the examples I found are from distinctly modern rooms, this new trend in bedding is also showing up in more traditionally designed bedrooms.
Here is a great example of embracing this trend while keeping the bed inviting. A coverlet is tucked into the bedframe and paired with a tailored duvet layered over it at the foot of the bed.
When dressing a pair of striking canopy beds one needs nothing more than tucked in coverlets showcasing a beautiful print.
Bedding with a bold print brings interest to this room, extending down to the edge of the bedframe rather than being tucked in. The result is clean and simple, fitting the design of the room perfectly.

Simple works well here with the coverlet and shams a few shades darker than the wall color.
This bedroom embraces serene with its white color palette and accents of dusty blue. Here a basic white duvet (yes, they are still being used) is made to look special by pairing it with a blue throw and accent pillows, all coordinating perfectly with the drapes.
Tip: If you like the look of this trend but are not ready to give up your duvet, simply insert a low loft comforter for a sleeker result.

This transitional design embraces both traditional and modern elements. While the simple bedding is tucked in, rich throws featuring a luscious sheen drape over the foot of the bed with elegant bedskirts completing the look.
