We immediately fell in love with the old-school, classic detailing and “bones” of this 1950s ranch-style Montecito bungalow… the broad, low pitch roof with deep overhangs, exposed rafters, wide plank board ceilings, board-on-board redwood wood siding… all the hallmarks of the ranch bungalow style. Fortunately, our client Kathleen felt just the same. The challenge we set ourselves was to carefully preserve all that wonderful character and, at the same time, achieve Kathleen’s desire to completely transform her place into a contemporary home for modern living.
One of the most effective ways to be sustainable is to preserve and reuse existing structures. We embrace the sustainable process of remodeling and repurposing existing structures. Our “Butterfly Beach Villa” home is a great example of how remodels can preserve classic architecture and help save the environment. We find this preservation process very rewarding, as do many of our clients.
