I think you're right, it probably dried out instead of burnt. ===>>> we are getting you there.. but it did burn.. but not from sun.. from root drying .. conifers are trees.. and they need a very specific potting media... when you repot.. you will probably be better off with a cactus media.. rather than a high peat mix which is usually sold for houseplants ... perhasp a new post on that theme when you get to that point.. and timing might be important .... what do the rest of you say about that ???? .. taxo.. they clearly said they were apartment bound with not even a balcony .. they have no outdoor options.. though you are correct that would be best ... please. please.. PLEASE ... transfer your memories to the pot ... trees are NOT HOUSEPLANTS [check out the link] ... sooner or later.. it is going to fail ... but you can always have the pot ... when you repot ... plant a true houseplant in the smaller pot.. and keep the memories alive in that .... and then .. if the repotting fails.. or time just catches up with your apartment tree .... grandma can still be with you ... that is the simplest solution to your conundrum ... good luck ken Here is a link that might be useful: link

Hi Ron. I'm not sure, but I would think lighting a 40 foot tall tree would cost more than what you want to spend. I don't know how to avoid this. Sorry. Maybe others will have some better suggestions or ideas.

Wow -- I want to thank everyone who recommended Thymes' Frazier Fir diffuser. This is our first year with an artificial tree and I really missed the smell. Knowing GW, I did a search and found this perfect thread (!); going to the Thymes' website I found a local (I mean a seven minute drive, door to door) charming shop I'd never seen before. It was incredible! And for whatever reason, they sold it to me for $30 (it should've been $60); I protested but they said "no, that's the price." So I bought a few other bibelots to ease my conscience (and it wasn't hard because it was one of those incredible shops where you want to just move in!). Right down the street from this shop a man was offering hay wagon rides, so my four and two year-olds, husband and I all hopped on and had an incredible ride around this sweet and historic downtown. Then we found an outdoor skating rink, so we rented some skates and pulled each other around. On the walk back to our car a man was handing out homemade candy canes from his candy shop. My four year-old loves candy canes! And all of these wonderful things happened to us today because the generous people here on GW shared Thymes Frazier Fir diffuser. So now I have this gorgeous smell, know about this wonderful local shop, and had a wonderful, serendipitous Saturday. Thank you!

I have a light pink, red, white and a yellow one. I happened to be at my daughter's nursery one day when some were delivered and she asked how to care for them..He said if you have a nice shade tree in the spring and summer put them under it. Let mother nature take care of the watering. Which I take to mean they don't need a lot of water and do best in the shade. Before frost bring them in and put them in a place where they do not get full light. He said to get good blooms they need some darkness every day.To root, he says it is better to break off at a fork and just stick in potting soil, much better than rooting in water.His advise has worked for me. Betsy, I do hope you can find a white. They are my favorite.
