Lady Spikes go 3-1 against Medina Valley

Lady Spikes 7A's Lilly Miller eyes the basket on a fast break layup Thursday night against Medina Valley at Spikes Gym.

Lady Spikes basketball teams notched three wins against Medina Valley when the HPMS seventh graders played host Thursday and the eighth grade traveled to Castroville.

Lady Spikes 7A

The Lady Spikes 7A team came up a bit short, losing to Medina Valley 22-20 Thursday night at Spikes Gym.

Lilly Miller was responsible for half (10) of HPMS’ points, and tacked on three rebounds, four steals, five blocks, and one assist to her efforts.

Caydence Barbo and AJ Rodriguez each scored four points. Barbo added in five rebounds, four steals, three blocks, and one assist. Rodriguez finished with three rebounds and two steals.

Aveson Sralla finalized points with two and had two steals. Paisley Green gave the Lady Spikes five rebounds and two blocks. Malinna Roque rebounded two balls and stole eight.

Another rebound came from Hayzlynn Lovelady, Kinleigh Davis dished an assist, and Marley Gonzalez came up with two steals.

The 7A team is 1-1.

Lady Spikes 7B

The HPMS 7B team easily defeated Medina Valley 30-15.

Lilliana Oliva’s big game was on display to the tune of 12 points, 16 rebounds, seven steals, and one assist.

Kobe Zabala had six points, five rebounds, four steals, and three blocks. Four points were from Audra Williams who also rebounded nine balls, made two steals, blocked a shot, and had two assists.

Alice Baker also scored four points, rebounded four balls, stole a pass, and blocked a shot. Two points each were by Kimberly Mein and Kyla Jasso. Mein matched her scoring with two steals, threw in one block and had a single assist. Jasso pulled down four boards and had a steal.

More steals came from Charlie Cotton, Carley Turner, and Kennedy Carter with one each. Turner also had a steal.

The 7B is 2-0.

Lady Spikes 8A

The Lady Spikes 8A team brought home a 33-25 win over Medina Valley.

mery Hall’s 11 points, six rebounds, and nine steals were just one part of HPMS’ winning effort.

Caroline Smithson scored nine points, had seven rebounds, seven steals, and one block. Aiyanna Holmes had five points, the same number of rebounds, and took in four steals.

Two points apiece were added to the total by Reese Wentrcek, Jaylynn Mitchell, Kyra Ramos, and Olivia Elliston.

Mitchell was a defensive demon with 11 steals plus a block. Morgan Sleeper (5) and Ramos (4) tallied another nine steals together. Ramos carried seven rebounds from the game, Sleeper, Amayah Martinez and Olivia Elliston rebounded two balls each. Mitchell had one rebound and one assist, Sleeper dished twice, Wentrcek took in one steal, and Elliston blocked a shot.

The 8A is 1-1.

Lady Spikes 8B

HPMS 8B dominated Medina Valley, winning 36-5.

Top three-point getters were Savannah Mooney with nine, Annabelle Stebbins with eight, and Zophia Lugo with seven.

Grace Stiteler, Madelyn Wiemers, and Victoria Anson also were in the mix.

On defense Anson had 12 steals, and 17 more were combined off thefts by Lugo (7), Annabelle Stebbins (3), Elliot Lackey (3), Savannah Miller (2), Madelyn Wiemers (1), and Savannah Mooney (1). Mooney blocked two shots and Navaeh Wright one had one swat-away

Rebounding leaders included Mooney with nine, Lackey with eight, Miller with six, Stebbins with five, Wright with three, and Lugo, Wiemers, Alexandria Fedewa and Stiteler with two apiece. Miller also had two assists while one assist each went to Lackey, Stiteler and Wright.

The 8B is 2-0.
