The bosses shut the office early today as they're trying to avoid a visit by the three spirits of Christmas so I stopped off on the way home to shoot some of London's landmarks with my trusy old GF2. Here's a view of St Paul's Cathedral from the One New Change shopping/office building.
"In New York freedom looks like
Too many choices
In New York I found a friend
To drown out the other voices
Voices on a cell phone
Voices from home
Voices through the hard sell
Voices down a stairwell
In New York
Just got a place in New York"
This time it is from Norway. The title translates to The Key Witness. The old "Sundial House" featured is now gone.

As stated in the image of W57, the Great Pyramid, this year 2017 was the 29th rendition of Fleetweek, Fleetweek 2017 which honors the men and women of the Navy, Marines and Coast Guard services for their unparalleled sacrifice & service in defending our nation in deployments that keep them away from loved ones for months at a time. Over time the celebrations have gotten more and more elaborate, with many navy and maritime-centric activities which include self guided tours of active military vessels like USS Kearsarge LHD-3 docked at Pier 88 in Manhattan which I was able to tour though it began to pour and I never got to go on deck, though there was plenty of amphibious and combat equipment below deck for the curious. The USS Kearsarge LHD-3 is stationed in Norfolk Virginia and is what referred to as a Wasp-class amphibious warfare ship; the largest amphibious ships in the world that resembles a small carrier. In this image taken from across the Hudson in Weehawken New Jersey the unique well deck at the ship’s stern is well lit with tungsten like lighting which gives it the yellow hew, this well deck supporting Landing Craft and Air Cushion (LCAC). On the top deck the UH-1N Huey helicopter is clearly visible and if you look the port side you will notice the silhouettes of Navy personnel exiting the ship for shore leave that evening. It’s wonderful to see the navy personnel and marine personnel walking through the city in areas like Times Square, Herald Square, Greenwich Village, the Highline, etc. The USS Kearsarge was built in 1990 by Litton-Ingalls Shipbuilding Corporation of Pascagoula, Mississippi , launched in 1992 in a ceremony that was attended by Chairman of the Joints Chiefs of Staff General Colin Powell and commissioned in the fall of 1993. This is actually the fifth navy vessel to be named Kearsarge, the first gained fame during the American Civil War and was named for Mount Kearsarge in New Hampshire.
One sad thing to note, during parachuting demonstrations at Liberty State Park by US Navy, a US Navy Seal Remington (Remi) Peters, 27 of an elite Navy parachute team known as Leap Frogs was critically injured when his parachute failed to open, he detached the chute when it didn’t open to plunge into the Hudson River to soften his fall. Unfortunately though the US Coast Guard and the New Jersey State Police fished him out of the Hudson and rushed him to Jersey City Medical Center he later died. Just a reminder of how precious life is and especially these brave military personnel where equipment failure can prove fatal even here at home.
