Agenda 2030: Global Food Loss and Waste Index
Agenda 2030 Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 12 “ensure sustainable consumption and production patterns” has target 12.3 “by 2030, halve the per capita global food waste at the retail and consumer level, and reduce food losses along production and supply chains including post-harvest losses.” FAO is working on the Global Food Loss Index indicator for 12.3 and UNEP is custodian of the Food Waste Index.
Think.Eat.Save Food Waste Prevention Guidance Version 1.0
Think.Eat.Save Prevention and reduction of food and drink waste in businesses and households – Guidance for governments, local authorities businesses and other organizations Version 1.0 is part of the Global Initiative on Food Loss and Waste Reduction and the FAO-UNEP Sustainable Food Systems Programme. Version 1.0 supports pilots for implementation at the country level and the gathering of data for Version 2.0. South Africa is the first pilot.
Food loss and waste protocol and standard
The FLW protocol and standard is a multi-stakeholder effort that provides countries, companies, and other organizations guidance on practical and consistent quantification of food loss and waste. The FLW Protocol is convened by the World Resources Institute (WRI) and involves FAO, UNEP, the World Business Council on Sustainable Development (WBCSD), the Consumer Goods Forum, the European Union project FUSIONS, and Waste and Resources Action Programme as core partners.
