- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5I enjoyed the writing but wow, where was the story? - I persisted through 2/12 - not much I admit - but I detected such a minimal story - TV report, Kerra, trying to get an interview with a reclusive - by appealing to a private detective, Trapper, who is also the estranged son of the reclusive - tantalising, but it wasn't enough.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5I really liked this. It definitely made me want to read more from this author. The mystery is good. It twists around but doesn't get too crazy. The leads are easy to like. It's sexy but not all about the sex.

I won a copy of this book from a giveaway held on goodreads.
I did not enjoy reading what I managed to read in this book. I decided it was in my best interest to quit reading to spare myself some brain decay after reading the following:
"He might have gone forever just kissing her if not for a greater hunger that he must gratify or die" I wanted to die in disgust when I read that little blurb.
Overall I don't understand the sex appeal for Trapper. He's not hot, he's a perverted creepy self-centered asshole who could maybe benefit more spiritually if he got his dick chopped off. One of the reasons why I think this way is because (Not a spoiler) his father got shot and all Trapper could think about was Kerra's tits (etc) when he visited her/his father in the hospital. Priorities, priorities. - Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5This book is a roller coaster ride from the first page to the last. It was full of action, had a great plot with a twist. I loved all the action and interaction between the characters. I recommend running to your favorite book store and grabbing a copy.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Sandra Brown is one of the authors that I enjoy reading. She delivers thrillers with enough suspense that it is hard to put the book down. The romance part of this book was not so much romantic as lustful with some descriptive sex scenes that I skimmed over. Having said that, I still enjoyed this story very much.
Twenty-five years earlier, a bombing at the Pegasus Hotel in Dallas forever changes the lives of father, Major Franklin Trapper, and his son, John. The Major, being in the right place at the right time, becomes a hero in the eyes of the world. John, "Trapper" becomes the forgotten son. He and his mother sit at home while his father travels and is interviewed over and over. In the last few years, The Major has become something of a recluse, but on the anniversary of the bombing, Kerra Bailey, a reporter from Dallas, wants to interview the Major. She is not having any success contacting him, so she tracks down Trapper to see if he can open doors for her. Three years earlier, Trapper and The Major had a falling out, but she is unaware of the situation or why it occurred. Her motivation for the meeting is more than just an interview. She has her own connection to that fateful day. Trapper and the local sheriff, a friend of the family, do not want the interview to take place. They each have their own reasons for that. Once the interview is completed, things go wrong and suddenly, Kerra finds herself in the middle of a possible conspiracy. With Trapper at her side, the sexual tension builds as they run and play hide and seek with the men after them.
Once again, Sandra Brown delivers an intriguing read in Seeing Red. Family dynamics, secrets, conspiracy, murder, and an underlying current of sexual tension drive this fast-paced story. Readers will need to set aside some time, because once you start this book, you will not want to put it down. The classic Brown twists and turns will bring you to another satisfying conclusion, even though you would not have guessed what was coming. The plot is well written with detail that sets the dangerous tone of this thriller. I raced through this one. If you enjoy a good suspenseful read with some sexual interludes, make sure to pick this one up. The publisher generously provided me with a copy of this book via Netgalley. - Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5Typical Sandra Brown thriller - sexy woman meets tough guy. They instantly have sparks, but something prevents them from being together, e.g. stubbornness, pride. This novel is about a reporter, Kerra Bailey (sexy woman), trying for an interview with Major Franklin Trapper. He continually denies her requests, so she tries to get through to The Major via his son, John Trapper (tough guy). It seems that The Major rescued Kerra from a hotel bombing 25 years earlier, and she plans to disclose that during the interview. However, after the interview is over, someone tries to kill both Kerra and The Major. There is a complicated backstory on how this attempt is tied to the bombing of the hotel all those years ago.
I am getting weary of the same basic storyline from these novels. - Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Sandra Brown delivers another compelling romantic thriller with a complex and twisted plot, though this particular story may take one turn too many to be plausible for some readers. The relationship between the two appealing main characters develops quickly and is hot and steamy. Brown skillfully handles both elements - the sexual tension never interferes with the criminal storyline - and the pace is brisk from beginning to end.

Twenty-five years ago, the major emerged a hero from the bombing of the Pegasus Hotel in downtown Dallas when he was photographed leading a handful of survivors out of the collapsing building. The iconic picture transformed him into a beloved national icon, in constant demand for speeches and interviews - until he suddenly dropped out of the public eye, shunning all members of the media. However, Kerra is willing to use any means necessary to get to the major - even if she has to wrangle an introduction from his estranged son, former ATF agent John Trapper.
Still seething over his break with both the ATF and his father, John Trapper wants no association with the hotel bombing or his hero father and spurns the meddling reporters determined to drag them back into the limelight. Yet Kerra's sheer audacity and tantalizing hints that there's more to the story rouse Trapper's interest despite himself. And when her interview of a lifetime goes catastrophically awry - with unknown assailants targeting not only the major but also Kerra - Trapper realizes he needs her under wraps if he's going to track down the gunmen before they strike again...as well as discover, finally, who was responsible for the Pegasus bombing.
Kerra is wary of a man so charming one moment and dangerous the next, and she knows Trapper is withholding evidence collected during his ATF investigation into the bombing. But having no one else to trust and enemies lurking closer than they know, Kerra and Trapper join forces and risk their very lives to expose a sinuous network of lies and conspiracy running deep through Texas - and uncover who would want a national hero dead. - Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Twenty-five years ago, the Pegasus Hotel in Dallas was bombed and Major Franklin Trapper became a hero when a photographer captured him on film as he led survivors out of the hotel and carried a little girl to safety.
The anniversary of the bombing sparks a request from journalist Kerra Bailey, through The Major’s estranged son, John, for an interview. Though he reluctantly agrees, he is certain his father will not grant the interview. But Kerra has a closely-guarded secret, one that she’s certain will change his mind.
And it does.
But it also targets both Major Trapper and Kerra. Why is someone determined to kill them? Can they find the answers and survive?
Strong characters, a tense tale full of plot twisty turns and ramped-up suspense, and the story’s swift pace all combine to keep readers on the edge of their seats. Several shady characters, unexpected reveals, and the ever-mounting tension help to make this one difficult to set aside before turning the final page.
Highly recommended. - Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Seeing Red by Sandra Brown is a 2017 Grand Central publication.
A gripping, dynamic and complex thriller from one of the best romantic suspense authors around!
Pictures that capture iconic or heroic moments in time are etched into our consciousness, conjuring the emotions and trauma of an event, cementing it in our minds forevermore. The image of Major Franklin Trapper leading a small number of people from a bombed out hotel, captured his brave act of heroism, adding it to those iconic images, and catapulted him to enormous fame.
Now, years later, ambitious and dedicated journalist, Kerra Bailey has her heart set on interviewing the Major. But, he’s not answering her calls. As a last resort, she contacts his estranged son, Trapper, hoping he can help get her foot in the door.
Her plan works, despite Trapper’s blunt rudeness, but once Kerra gets her chance, it turns deadly when she and the Major are attacked inside his home. The logical motive behind the ambush must have something to do with the decades old bombing and the fear that Kerra’s interview might unearth long buried secrets and corruption.
Trapper, a former ATF agent, once on the brink of discovering who was behind the hotel bombing, that made his father famous, but also drove a wedge between them, is determined to keep Kerra safe, while hopefully solving the decades old crime that cost so many people their lives.
This story has a sophisticated plot, tapping on a few timely themes, solving not one, but two horrendous crimes. One, the cold case, which is long overdue for justice and the present -day crimes connected to it.
For Kerra, the interview with the Major, could make her a superstar, but it’s much more personal that anyone realizes. It’s personal for Trapper as well, but he doesn’t want to let on how worried he is about his father or how much he cares about Kerra.
As the pair join forces, they begin to uncover a shocking trail of greed, coercion, and abuse of power. The twists come at a rapid -fire pace, with skill and cunning precision.
There are plenty of thought provoking characterizations, all well-defined and full of conflict and festering resentments. The bad guys chilled me to the bone with their unapologetic lack of remorse, twisted and manipulative mind games, and lust for power and control.
The romance between Trapper and Kerra may be rocky, but it’s blazing hot! I loved the dialogue and banter between the couple, and despite Trapper’s lack of apparent sentimental charm, I couldn’t stay mad at him for long, and mostly got a kick out his frank appraisals and remarks.
Sandra Brown has romantic suspense writing down to a science. Her fans want and expect edgy plotlines and high -heat romance, and she more than delivers with this novel. But, even if you don’t enjoy reading romance, there is a perfect balance of the two elements, so that it will appeal to a broader audience and to anyone who simply wants to enjoy a good old fashioned thriller.

I recieved this book free from goodreads in exchange for a review. - Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5I received a free advance e-copy of this book and have chosen to write an honest and unbiased review. I have no personal affiliation with the author. Wow! Sandra Brown has done it again with another great romantic thriller with a surprising ending. The thrills, excitement, and passion never quit. I couldn’t put it down. Full of murder, betrayal, surprises and twists and turns. She kept me guessing right up until the ending. Sandra Brown is one of my all time favorite authors and she never disappoints. I look forward to reading more from this author in the future.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5I enjoyed this book quite a bit! I have been a long time fan of Sandra Brown. Before I owned a kindle, started a blog, or had a goodreads account, I read Sandra Brown. I kind of feel like we go way back. I haven't read all of her books but I usually keep up with her annual release every year and try to squeeze in books from her backlist when I get the chance. I went into this book expecting a very entertaining story and those expectations were solidly met.
Trapper and Kerra were at the center of this story. Kerra is a TV journalist out to get the big interview that nobody has been able to get for years. She decides to enlist Trapper's help in getting his father to agree to the interview. Never mind the fact that Trapper is currently not on good terms with his father. Trapper's father, Major Franklin Trapper, became a celebrity when he was able to a few people during a deadly bombing that made headlines. The interview ends up becoming the starting point for a dangerous chain of events.
I really liked Trapper and Kerra in this story. They were both really smart and able to think on their feet. Trapper was a little rough around the edges but really cared underneath it all. Kerra was able to balance the need to get the big story with what she felt was the right thing to do. They had great chemistry with each other and I loved following them as they worked to get everything figured out.
This book starts off with a bang and I was hooked right away. I think that the choice to tell some parts of the story out of order at the very start of the book was very effective. There were so many different things going on in this book and I found myself working to figure out what was really going on along with Trapper and Kerra. I was never quite sure who could really be trusted and found myself second guessing some of the characters. There were quite a few twists and turns that I did not see coming.
I would highly recommend this book to fans of romantic suspense. This book has a lot of action, a solid mystery to solve, and a great romance at its core. I can't wait to read more from Sandra Brown soon.
I received an advance reader edition of this book from Grand Central Publishing via NetGalley. - Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Seeing Red by Sandra Brown
Wonderful writing from beginning to end in this romantic suspense with a mystery thrown in! I love all of the books I have read by this author and loved this one, too!
This book hit closer to home in some ways because of where I have lived and what I have experienced. I was in the American embassy in Beirut collecting cookies for soldiers a few weeks before it was bombed and that day was expecting people for dinner that either died or ended up in the hospital. I watched soldiers playing baseball on the AUB campus before their barracks were bombed. I lived through the Gulf War in Saudi Arabia and came back to more war in Lebanon – war is gritty – bombs are lethal – the story indicated just how horrible the aftermath can be for many and some specifically.
So, the story…I started reading in the evening thinking I would stay up till tired and put the book down to continue today BUT once I began I could not put it down. I read till 3am and then contemplated the story some more. The prologue set the stage and then from that intense beginning till the end of the book the tension remained high. I was able to understand the motivation for the H/h and how they were attracted to one another and also appreciated that they did not fall easily. Their backstories were interesting and complex enough to give them further substance. I found the main bad guy to be evil incarnate and the fact that there was more than one baddie intriguing. The twists and turns were well plotted and some unseen till near the end.
I do not believe I have ever read a book by Sandra Brown that I did not enjoy so when I was granted an ARC of this book through NetGalley and Grand Central Publishing I was thrilled. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and my honest review reflects my response to reading this wonderful novel.
5 Stars - Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5Sandra Brown has justifiably earned her place as one of the top romantic suspense authors. Seeing Red gives us a scorching physical attraction between Kerra and Trapper, while keeping us on edge as past and present intertwine and secrets unravel.
That being said, and get ready to boo me, this was not one of her best books. And of course that's subjective. Brown's storytelling is, as always, remarkable. I could see the characters and feel their emotions. But I wasn't invested in the story as I normally would be.
Some of the word choices felt dated and/or strange for the specific characters. For instance, every single character referred to the bathroom as the "powder room". Maybe it's a regional thing, but I've never heard anyone under 70 use that term. It seemed particularly odd coming from cops and a rugged man in his thirties. Also, criminals who broke into a certain place were referred to as "intruders". Again, maybe it's a regional thing, but no one I know would tell me they had "intruders" in their home.
Another problem area for me came with the lack of romance and abundance of sex. Quite a bit of and quite graphic sex, in fact. I missed the softness of the relationship. The characters' actions and dialogue felt more like edgy erotica than romance.
The pace is steady, and the plot takes us to some interesting places with a couple interesting twists. But the reasoning behind it all, for me, felt weak. I can't explain why without giving spoilers.
Despite my complaining, the story held my interest and I enjoyed spending time with the characters. And, as I said, my complaints are specific to me. If you're in the mood for steamy suspense, give this one a try.

Sandra Brown's ability to pen romantic suspense is as strong as ever! Every year I look forward to her annual romantic suspense release, and once again Ms. Brown has captivated my attention with an intriguing mystery and garnered my attention with a well-developed and I think this year extra charged passionate romance!
John Trapper's father is America's favorite hero. Over twenty years ago his father became a cherished heroic icon when he saved the lives of numerous people in a hotel bombing of the Pegasus Hotel that claimed close to 200 lives. John's life, however, was forever negatively affected by that event (which occurred when he was just 11 years old). John feels like he might as well have lost his father that day given his father's lack of involvement in his life from that day forward as a result of the dramatic change that his father's fame and notoriety led to. This distance, as well as the circumstances surrounding John's questionable departure from the ATF, lead to John and his father no longer being on speaking terms.
So when an up and coming TV reporter (Kerra Bailey) asks John for his help in securing an interview from his father for a special anniversary edition, John wants no part of this request--even if he can't help but have salacious thoughts about the very attractive, Ms. Bailey. When Kerra, however, leaves John--who now works as a private detective--with a puzzle that he quickly solves and which may be the key to proving the theory he "quit" the ATF over; John reluctantly agrees to help Kerra in her request.
That interview, however, leads to one whopper of a revelation and ends up stirring up all kinds of previously buried skeletons. Just what is the truth and what really happened all those years ago? Moreover, as danger is unleashed, will Kerra and John be able to work together to uncover the truth before it is too late? And will they be able to keep their professional distance or will they succumb to their heated attraction?
Lovers of romantic suspense stories will not want to miss Seeing Red: it is sure to hit you in the feels department in all the right spots and challenge your ability to sleuth a mystery to boot! With yet another fantastic Sandra Brown story under my belt, now I can't wait to read more of Ms. Brown's talented and intelligently written romantic suspense titles.
