      Sometimes the exception proves the rule, and this book is one of those cases. I always say I'm not a fan of Nora Roberts writing as herself, yet I love her writing as J.D. Robb in the In Death series, which seems a bit pithier to me. But something about the description of this book (and okay, yes, the lovely cover) sucked me in and I decided to give it a try. And I really enjoyed it. Part Gothic romance, part haunted house/paranormal novel, this is the story of the unexpected inheritance of a large manor house by a young woman who's in need of a fresh start in her life. It has a Gothic haunted house, interesting characters, friendly spirits (that I wish would take up residence in my house!) and one particularly unfriendly ghost that's made life in the house difficult for generations. The narration of the audiobook by Brittany Pressley is excellent, as her narrations always are.
      The one caveat I'd add is that this is the first book in a trilogy, and it ends on a cliffhanger - a big one. While the cliffhanger didn't bother me, it definitely bothers many readers so if that's an issue for you, just be aware.

      No! No! No! This wonderful story doesn’t end with this book! Ms. Nora Roberts I love your work, please hurry up and finish this trilogy. Brittany Presley you made this book so much more fascinating! All the characters flowed easily and their voices were distinguished to each character. Can’t wait for the next book.
